God's way is you make a legal promise of commitment to a person in order to sleep with them. Not the other way around. What ever ceremony you use to do that is not dictated by God that I know of, just that you state your intention to be legally committed as a spouse to the person. That's why I have no problem with going to a JP to get married. The point being, you marry the person. Otherwise it's just plain ol' fornication.

In states where I am familiar with the law (not Florida) it requires living together "as a married couple" which exempts those living strictly as roommates.
the torah. moses commanded that 50 shekels for a dowery, if you took her to be a wife, you had to divorce her and it had be justified. ie she was a fornicator. I may be mistaken if it was like the regular divorce for a marriage, or with said death penalty for just changing ones mind. I will read up to make sure.

I don't really see anyone here saying this is a good idea, nor do I see anyone somehow looking for an excuse to not be married legally. Were just discussing what does scripture actually say about God's view. Not what the law or tradition say, but what did God actually tell us in scripture.

he has a point. If all it was if gods approves then why marry? you don't need to have insurance, and so forth via the marriage laws. I can add my wife to my pension for the military and the city I can list her as a dependent that isn't a spouse. it makes it easy to remover her if we aren't married and that is what Jethro is talking about. whereas legally I cant without her consent. she has a right to my pension after so many years of marriage and I hers. but with gay rights that has been eroded.
I haven't seen anyone claim that it's ok to have sex outside of marriage, assuming that's what you mean by fornication.
What this boils down to is we see God's will for legal marriage in the law.
