Pregnant woman fired for not marrying fiance

In antiquity, there weren't ceremonies though, they were married in God's eyes, a commitment and copulation that was it.
uhm its a bit more then that. a bethoral was said in front of the congregation and you took wine and shared it with you future wife and made and oath in front all your Hebrew brethren., daddy if you didn't marry her after paying the dowry, made sure you died.

True. It was much more elaborate.

And the OT law says the person you are just engaged to is your spouse. Much stricter then, not less.
Basically what you are saying is society will dictate how we live, regardless if that is not how God established it?

Did Isaac or Jacob appear evil when they "married" their wives?
I think a thread on the origins of the chuppa is needed. this all goes back to oral traditions and from the man Abraham.

When did this start? I do know the Hebrews set up a ton of their own laws, above and beyond the simplicity of God - much like our society.

God's way is you make a legal promise of commitment to a person in order to sleep with them. Not the other way around. What ever ceremony you use to do that is not dictated by God that I know of, just that you state your intention to be legally committed as a spouse to the person. That's why I have no problem with going to a JP to get married. The point being, you marry the person. Otherwise it's just plain ol' fornication.

common law marriage for the most part aren't legal. my state doesn't have that rule. so if I live with man that is a roommate for seven years is that now a marriage?
In states where I am familiar with the law (not Florida) it requires living together "as a married couple" which exempts those living strictly as roommates.

the torah. moses commanded that 50 shekels for a dowery, if you took her to be a wife, you had to divorce her and it had be justified. ie she was a fornicator. I may be mistaken if it was like the regular divorce for a marriage, or with said death penalty for just changing ones mind. I will read up to make sure.

oddly domestic violence can be considered if I beat said roommate. sharing of the domicile is considered it here. that is another topic.the useless info I know from the national guard

Think about it. You want to be 'right' and 'godly' and consider your relationship a marriage, and because you want to be 'right' and 'godly' you also know that the relationship can not be ended, so for corn's sake WHY DON'T YOU JUST GET LEGALLY MARRIED!

Let me know when any of you meet a co-habitating couple who is staying together because they are convinced they are married and that they have to stay 'married' because God says so. Okay?

Meanwhile, I will show you the couples I've known who were sure they were 'married' without the license but seemed to use the fact that they were not married as the door to then end the relationship. Stupid people we are. Stupid!
I don't really see anyone here saying this is a good idea, nor do I see anyone somehow looking for an excuse to not be married legally. Were just discussing what does scripture actually say about God's view. Not what the law or tradition say, but what did God actually tell us in scripture.

Kinda looks like Noah's Ark in the back.

But you can apply THAT verse to absolutely everything!
No, only if it is considered evil.

Unbelievers LOVE the hypocrisy of the church. The fact that they can identify hypocrisy in the church shows they know what is considered good and evil in the church.

he has a point. If all it was if gods approves then why marry? you don't need to have insurance, and so forth via the marriage laws. I can add my wife to my pension for the military and the city I can list her as a dependent that isn't a spouse. it makes it easy to remover her if we aren't married and that is what Jethro is talking about. whereas legally I cant without her consent. she has a right to my pension after so many years of marriage and I hers. but with gay rights that has been eroded.

I haven't seen anyone claim that it's ok to have sex outside of marriage, assuming that's what you mean by fornication.

What this boils down to is we see God's will for legal marriage in the law.
