Pride-Arrogance-Hostility & Ignorance

It sure is good to walk with the Lord. He is such a great God. Almighty in power and stands ready to listen to our prayers and to fill our cups to overflowing with grace and blessings. Sometimes he seems to answer some prayers instantly. Sometimes we wonder if He hears us at all because He doesn't seem to answer them. We may be in great pain and pour out our heart to him in prayer, and we are left alone in our pain.

Sometimes we read his word, and our heart opens up and the meaning of the passage is immediately clear and we KNOW with every ounce of our being what it means. We feel it in our heart or have a gut feeling so to speak, that it is clear. Other times we read his word and it is as if it is in a foreign language that we do not know, and we are immediately confounded and know that we do not know the meaning. We dictionary out the words, use a concordance perhaps, and are left in confusion, not grasping the message and are left with the sinking feeling that perhaps God has left us alone or are not worthy or that we are failing...unable to measure up perhaps.

Why is this? Why would God seem to pick and choose what he lets us understand? Why would he leave us alone in our misery and not answer our prayers when we are in great pain? I think that the answer is simple (and not!). Take a look at Matthew 11:25-28

25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”/ (NIV)

Matthew 18: 1-5
1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me./ (NKJV)

We have to humble ourselves and become as little children. This puts our heart in the proper state to receive Him. If we do not become as little children our pride and arrogance will block our ability to understand. Just have faith and hold yourself as if you know nothing. All things are not for us to understand. Don't fret about this. Learning and growing is a process. The Lord will not reveal all to us overnight. He wants us to learn patience, to continuously study and pray. Don't be so quick to want to grow up. Remain as a little child, in faith, in knowledge, in humbleness. We are nothing, and God is everything. Have faith that our Father will teach us in due time. When you're older is what we say to our children at times, remember? Hold your place and be as a little child to your Father in heaven.

Why doesn't God answer our prayers when we are in great pain? We do pray and pour out our troubles to Him. God give me a sign, God Heal my pain, God bring back my Wife/Husband/Boyfriend.Girlfriend, Go do this for me I love her/him, God make this happen for me.

I believe this is the wrong way to pray. Let's take a look at Luke 10: 25-28
25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” 27 So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’[h] and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’” 28 And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”/ (NKJV)

The greatest commandment is to love the Lord God FIRST, with all your heart. God give me, grant me, do for me...is not putting God first. I used to pray like this but have found that God answers my needs better and faster if I do not focus selfishly upon myself. God knows our needs. Matthew 6: 8-13

8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.[c]/ (NKJV)

Think not upon your own troubles, but continue to praise God and all these things will be added unto you. When we pray to God only give give give, it is being selfish and not putting God first in our lives. He knows your troubles and what is in your heart and will care for you in the best way possible to teach you perseverance, faith, and to keep Him first in your life. Then it will be as the floodgates of heaven are opened in blessings to you.

It's sad to say this...but the majority of people I meet that fit the descriptions of "pride, arrogence and hostility" are typically other Christians. In fact, when I think about all the worst people i've known in my life...they are almost always other Christians i've encountered.

Not saying we are all like that...I go to an awesome church with great people. But a majority of the ones i've meet during my life journey have been horrible people.

As a child of God we need not pray for ourselves, but to trust Him in all things as God will always supply our need when we give praise and thanksgiving to His name. God is not a genie in a lamp to grant our wishes, but He does know how to give us His best gifts as He already knows what we need before we even pray. Glory to His mighty name.

That is exactly what I had in mind when I posted. This site is a prime example. I can understand disagreement on interpretations and such, but there is a lot of arrogance from self proclaimed Christians here. People taking offense to others views and even holding their own wisdom above that of the Word of the Lord (the Bible).

Some are smarter than others, and all are presumably well intentioned, but instead of gently guiding one another into edification, we get arrogance and hostility. This edifies no one. If we were to be humble enough to set aside ego and personal judgment, and rely on scriptures more, there would be more unity and edification for all. We sound like a bunch of bickering idiots at times. Not a good representation of our Lord.

Approaching discussion and reading of scripture as a little child allows one to easily admit that we know nothing for we are man. I guess some of us have too much pride to be able to adopt that position. If we all did, we would be studying together instead of arguing. Don't get me wrong, I am speaking of myself as much as anyone else. I have good days and bad days and perhaps am not such a good speaker. I don't expect I am right about everything, but I'm not so full of pride to not be able to learn or consider other views for the sake of discussion and edification either. I think it's dangerous to ones soul to be prideful about what we think we know. This is scriptural.

Matthew 11:25-30
Matthew 18:1-8

One of the most outstanding qualities of a young child is his humble spirit. Young children have not yet learned what pride is. Those who wish to live for eternity in the presence of Almighty God must employ this same attitude of humility. As adults, we often trust in our own abilities all too much, refusing (because of stubborn pride) the help of those who truly can help us. This is all too often the case when it comes to salvation. We must turn to the One, and only One, who can save us–God. We must obey what He has set out for us to do (1 Samuel 15:22; Ecclesiastes 5:1; Hosea 6:6; Acts 4:19-20; Acts 5:29) . We must never think that we are “above” that which God would have us do. Without humility, we will never access the grace of the Almighty (James 4:10; 1 Peter 5:6). Is your pride more important than your soul? (Proverbs 16:18; Matthew 16:26).

Well said. I totally agree.
