Pride Fights

Dave...

I like boxing, but some even think that boxing is over the line. I'm pretty sure that the Pride Fighting on ESPN is over the line, but I'm becoming addicted to watching it on TV. I've always had a passion for sports that are pure and are much more difficult to fix.

Anyone ever watch it?

What do you think? Too violent?

I love UFC. I watch Pride from time to time but I like the octagon cage better than the traditional ring. I watch Unleashed and TUF on Spike and usually my brother and I will take turns getting each PPV. I don't think its too violent, in my opinion its a hybrid of boxing and amateur wrestling and definitely safer than boxing. The ref stops the fight when the guy is either out or isn't reasonably defending themselves. MMA isn't for the faint of heart though, so I think there defenitely should be an age restriction for who is allowed to watch.

Can't believe I almost missed this Dave...I love mma and have been a fan since 1992!

You may have read that I run a karate school, it's bareknuckle karate so we have mma fighters in our dojo. I've studied judo, jujitsu and freestyle wrestlings since 1995. My family has run the local boxing club for 30 plus years and I have two cousins that were golden glove champs, I grew up in a boxing club.

I guess you can say it's in the blood.

I'm now working on being a coach for a high school freestyle wrestling team, we meet 3x a week at 6am. Currently I have two mma fighters in my stable.

What do you think of Penn vs. Hughes II? I think Hughes has it this time.

I'm really disappointed GSP is hurt. I really thought he would beat Hughes this time. BJ is tough but I question his heart and drive a little bit, and Matt Hughes isn't the same fighter he was the first time around. He's been nearly unstoppable.... Captain America is what we call him at work.

Chuck was sick last night against Sobral... I think the upcoming Liddell-Silva fight is gonna be a nasty war. I'm also looking forward to Franklin getting back... I'm hearing that it will be in October.

Liddell-Silva isn't going to happen, sorry to be the one to break it to you. Pride is not letting him.

I wanted Liddell to get subed but oh well.

Remind me not to pick a fight with you. LOL Your family, 30 years of boxing, WOW. I live in the cleveland area, so we some some amateur stuff going on all the time down here, but I never seem to find the time to go down there. We had one local that I can think of that made it big, remember Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini? He was never the same after he fought the Korean Guy.

Pride fighting is a great sport to watch. :-D I really appreciate the respect that the fighters seem to have for each other and the sport. They move away quickly when the ref. jumps in, and I always see genuine compliments and care for each other after the fight. I started watching that stuff off and on when ultimate fighter was popular. Grappling seemed to be the top style back then. These pride fighters seem to be much better than those guys were.

BTW. I'm really getting addicted to the ESPN show called the contender. I can't wait for the next fight.

I still remember watching the heavy weight bouts with Ali, Forman, Smokin' Joe in front of the TV with my Father on Sundays. Those were the good days of boxing.

I watched the first season of the Contenders, not bad. They edit the rounds so who knows what's happening during the fight.

That's true. I like to think of it more as boxings version of reality TV. It's a interesting twist for entertainment value. I noticed that they show a lot of the same punches in different rounds from different angles too.
