That's the common misconception here, pride month isn't about the kind of pride that puffs you up and you believe you're better than anyone else. It's about affirming worth and dignity after many, many years of being stripped of it. It's the opposite of shame.

I'm not NECESSARILY saying I support pride month, but if you think there's only one kind of pride or that all definitions of pride end in sin then don't let me catch you saying you're proud to be an American.

look, I'm 8 years into a walk with Jesus, and...still -not- a red blooded, heterosexual man's man. lol. however, He has somehow made me -not- a flamboyantly gay individual (technical term I believe is: "gender nonconforming homosexual"), which...

-sigh- look, I can type this out on a christian forum, but this won't go over well in today's climate, with just about any unbeliever, anywhere. being a flamer was...not only -not- fun, it was a major hindrance to doing much of anything in life. true story. its not that I'm alpha male, top dog, its just...

-not flaming- is a massive blessing. not that it was all rooted in my own sins or whatever...honestly, I kinda think a toxic community environment might have helped both foster and maintain it, till God intervened, but...

flamers are old by 25. its just...the way the world works, it seems. Almost 37, no longer flaming...The Lord is Good.

now... as for the pride thing...once again, I have to say (and not exactly -happy- about this) that I mostly agree with the brief article. same sex inclinations, sometimes strong and to the exclusion of the other sex...happen. true story. gender problems also...happen. I wouldn't go so far as to say that all practicing homosexuals are so wrapped up in pride and such that there's no room for Jesus or anything, but...

-ugh- the gay community doesn't really have anything to be proud of, as best I can tell. High drug and alcohol abuse rates, high rates of mental disorders, high rates of attempted suicide and completed suicides...

and I -do not- think it is all because of "oppression" or "social factors," to be perfectly honest. sadly, that lifestyle is not of God, cannot be of God, and...

especially in urban areas, the gay community seems to trend towards interpersonal exploitation, promiscuity, ageism, materialism, racism, elitism, and general...

yeah, nothing good, basically. :-(

so...as a borderline socialist, born again Christian who is -still- not heterosexual but not actively pursuing the gay lifestyle, now...

-shrug- I don't see much to be proud of, both in terms of my own (thankfully, forgiven) past on the fringes of a gay community, nor do I think the gay community really has much to celebrate and/or offer the world. -off soap box-

Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity (Cf. Genesis 19:1-29; Romans 1:24-27; 1 Corinthians 6:10; 1 Timothy 1:10), tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Persona humana, 8). They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. They do not choose their homosexual condition; for most of them it is a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition. Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them their inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

Sexual attractions can change over time. For whatever reason it is owed that if a person is not attracted to the opposite sex, it only takes the right combination of events to open their eyes to see them with the love that God has intended.

i do think God can shift individuals' sexual inclinations. not that He always sees fit to do so, but...He has, He does, sometimes, for some people.

I think where a big part of the established, "conservative" Protestant church went wrong was their use of counseling and other mental health, inc. methods to "correct" same sex inclinations. psychology, in particular, is decidedly un-scientific and filled with decidedly anti-Christ dogma. perhaps not surprisingly, there are literally dozens of schools of thought in psychology, etc...

and the "success" rates are not all that impressive. psychiatry is no better...more dangerous, of course...and the two work hand in hand. both should be rejected by the church, especially when dealing with those within the fold.

Interesting. For example?? The anti Christ dogma I mean mainly .
As for unscientific. I'm on a diet now. Science told us to eat lots of carbs and avoid fat at all costs. That was before.
Now it's the opposite. Avoid carbs . How much should we rely on science?
Maybe I'm glad these pot shots are aimed at psychology. Science is overrated anyhow.
