What or who are the influences in your life! What makes you a believer in those things you believe in! Do you follow a majority rule principle or do you seek out what is truth. I’m not asking questions here, but something to think about.

I am talking about how we as individuals read the word of God. For many years I believed everything that came out from the pulpit as I was under a majority rule teaching as every Pastor I ever heard taught the same thing. As I read along with the scriptures given it was by consistency of reasoning that I too believed in what was coming from the pulpit.

I believe now it is that consistency of reasoning that blinds us to the real truth of what God has already spoken, especially when I find myself questioning that of what I am hearing. Are we a product of our social environment or are we a product of Gods environment.

We can only teach others by the anointing of the Holy Spirit that teaches us all things and speaks through us. Many say they are under the anointing or that the Holy Spirit taught them, but are only using logic for their teachings and teach from a majority rule environment.

Let no man teach you unless you know they are under the anointing to do so and learn how to discern the spirits that speak as one is the Spirit of truth and the other the spirit of error. Take the scriptures that are given and allow the Holy Spirit reveal truth to you so you will not be blindsided by a deceptive teaching.

KJV

1John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

The Jerusalem Bible

1John 2:27 But you have not lost the anointing that he gave you and you do not need anyone to teach you. The anointing he gave teaches you everything. You are anointed with truth, not with a lie and as it has taught you so you must stay in him.

KJV

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

1John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

1John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

1John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

1John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

1John 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

1John 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

1Peter 4:11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Very good Debbie! I hope everyone reads your thread....When I started our as the pastor of a small country church, I was aware of a lot of false teachings by men of big reputations. Back in the late seventies and early eighties, "secondary separation" was the hot topic amongst "Fundamental Baptist Churches" and in the fellowship of the IFCA (Independent Fundamental Churches of America). Bob Jones University was turning out pastors with this theme. Early on I came across Matthew 15:8 & 9, "This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men". ESV. I found that there was "Baptist tradition" that if I was going to be a good Baptist pastor, I would teach those traditions. I praise God that He decided that I should be a rebel! I decided to teach the Word of God, verse by verse. I stayed away from topical preaching and stuck with verse by verse thru each Chapter of the Book of the Bible that God led me to thru prayer. Needless to say, I was not a popular Baptist pastor.

I say all of that, not to brag, but to point out that denominational traditions, and they all have them, is false teaching IMO. I was not perfect in this area, but when I was convicted of error, I did my best to seek out truth.

By the way, GREAT AVATAR!! pretty lady!

It's hard to be the rebel that comes against false teachings and in my 16 years of teaching I have been called many names that I would not even speak. I agree as if I am wrong in what I teach I am sure the Holy Spirit will convict me for after all we stand alone before the Lord to give account for what we have taught.

Can't wait till it warms up again to ride the four-wheelers again. By then my hip should be all healed up. I'm using a cane right now and taking a few steps on my own. Can't keep a good women down, LOL.

Ha, ha, you go girl!! Yea, it takes a while, but oh my, when everything is healed up, what a blessing! I don't even think about it anymore. I used to be careful not to invert my knees, now I cross my legs, invert my knees as if there is no problem. One day, if I'm not too careful, I might have trouble.

Well Debbie, God bless and good to see you. It won't be long and those 4 wheelers will be humming right along. I'm jealous.

:thinking 1Ki_7:32 And under the borders were four wheels; and the axletrees of the wheels were joined to the base: and the height of a wheel was a cubit and half a cubit.

God's truth and God's truth only.I always test what comes out of a man's mouth with the Bible if that person is a pastor or if it is a devotional. My discernment has become rather sharp.

Sometimes Satan sits in the front pew or even on stage in some churches, but yet Jesus is knocking at the door, but not allowed in.

Yes..But isn't that what Satan wants? To distract us?His main goal is that we do not get to heaven.

Satan wants nothing more than to steal the faith which is Christ Jesus from us. This is why he plants his false prophets behind the pulpits to be able to deceive those who lack knowledge in the word of God and are being blinded by that of a false gospel being preached as we see this on the increase every day.

Mat 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

We all start out as more products of our environment, I think. God shapes us from there, I believe.

I wanted nothing more than to escape my environment growing up. Although, I had a good home and we where raised in the Methodist church, I hated it.

I was very inquisitive as a child. Still am. I was that kid who would annoy you with every question until I reached the end of your mind, then I would force you to admit you don't know.

I have a vivid memory about a time when I saw a magic show, at church of all places. It may have been VCBS, or something, but it was for kids. We had a day of activities and such, and included was this magic show. I could not have been more than 5 or 6, but I was so excited about seeing it that I told my mother all about it, and she said to me that perhaps I'd like to get a book on magic at the library. She was always encouraging me to read and she saw this interest of mine as a way to get me in a book. One of those mother tricks. What she did not always understand, was my logic.

I truly believed in the 'tricks' I saw, as magic, and I wanted nothing more than to posses this power. So, naturally I was more than willing to make this trip to the dusty old library and get my hands on this book of magic. And so we did.

Less than a third of the way into the book I realized a sobering reality. This wasn't magic at all. These are just tricks. LIES! I equated the two immediately. Why would the church allow this magic man to play tricks on me? To lie!

From that day forward I trusted nothing fully. What else might people not know, and say they do? What is truth if I can not trust my senses? How can I know anything for sure?

This, I am describing, is the seed of every nonbeliever in the world, who is actually seeking the truth.

Honesty often escapes us to the fullness of it's meaning. In my house growing up, there seemed to be no sin grater than a lie, yet I could not escape the idea that everyone was doing just that, not only to 'one-another', but worse, to themselves. Living phoney lives for the benefit for themselves and others. That's how I saw my environment, and quite frankly I still do. I call it "the world'

When we are honest about out ability to know anything it forces us into a corner to admit we know nothing, and that all the knowledge we think we have comes from somewhere else. Truth must exist somewhere else, somewhere beyond ourselves, beyond others, beyond our societies, and beyond our world. I believe that when we come to this place, God meets us there.

God will meet us there when we call on His Holy Spirit to reveal truth to us as we study to gain knowledge and understanding in His word, but I feel many do not understand that anointing.
