Years ago, I had a dream where I was sitting outside in front of a church I used to attend. A few friends and I were seated in lawn chairs. There was an ice chest (chilly bin) with a portable radio on top of it. It was a sunny day and we were chatting/relaxing in the front lawn of the church. The busy residential street running in front of the church was about 75ft away. The radio was playing music, but then the news cut in with an announcement stating that the United States military would be hosting an unprecedented nation-wide massive military exercise involving numerous allied countries. The reason given was that the us military had traditionally held such exercises in other host countries and that, as a show of good will, would host one in turn.
We also heard how this would be held starting the next day and other nations' militaries were already based throughout the country. We heard the local media state where we could witness these deployments and see our military stationed side-by-side with others nations' troops and equipment. It was announced American citizens would be allowed to approach, interact and ask questions as a PR event.
We then turned off the radio and talked amongst ourselves what a historic event this would be and how we should sit outside the next day to witness the show.
We went back toward the rectory and went inside to tell others. The dream ended that day and suddenly it was the next day. We were seated back outside in our lawn chairs eagerly awaiting the start of the exercises. There was an intersection about 100ft to the front left of the church and sometime during the night four tanks had deployed from 3 other nations at that intersection. Two of the tanks were up on the corners where the sidewalks were and one, a German tank, sat in the street to block all traffic. It was early in the morning so there were no cars on the street yet. In front of the German tank was a table with flags, brochures and papers. A German officer was seated behind the table with his back to the tank.
We sat there in our lawn chairs taking in the spectacle and asked each other "Where were the American troops/vehicles? People in the neighborhood began peering out their windows and doors then came out to their yards. They gathered and discussed with each other what was going on. A few retired vets approached the German officer and inquired what the purpose was in blocking the street. The officer smiled and offered them brochures and reassured them it was just part of the exercise. The vets inquired further where the American troops were and why they're not being represented as reported they would be. The officer said the American troops were safe and still in their barracks as ordered. The vets became concerned and the other neighbors began crowding the street wanting answers. The officer's smile faded as he stated all American troops had been ordered to report to their bases and had been arrested as they showed up. The civilians were told to remain calm. The old vets became agitated and began shouting at the officer and the other tank crews. The officer nodded to his tank crew so they began climbing back into their tank. The other two tanks from the other nation saw this and climbed into their tanks as well.
The German officer stood up and ordered the crowd to disperse. The crowd, led by the vets, became irate and waved while yelling at the tanks to leave. The officer turned toward his tank and made a hand motion. At this the tank started its engine then turned its turret toward the crowd. It pointed its cannon to the crowd. The vets realized the danger the women and children were in and began telling everyone to go back to their homes. As the crowd dispersed, the angry vets grudgingly backed away to their homes. One vet yelled out "You won't get away with this!". The German replied "We already did."
I woke up.
