Quaker

Curious if anyone has been a a Quaker church? I know they are not really churches in the normal sense of the word. They are halls that everyone sits at and when someone is moved by the Spirit to speak up they do. I would like to attend a meeting of theirs some time and just see how it works.

I must admit I am thrilled by the idea of observing their meetings because I just find them intriguing.

I want to stress how badly I do not want to become a Quaker, they got a doctrine that does not follow the Word of God. I am simply curious how their rantings work out and living in New England we have a few meeting halls near us.

From my understanding, the quakers originated from a revival. A movement of the holy spirit (hence the name 'quaker' - from quaking when hit by the holy spirit) but like most revivals, it ended in religion.

My main beef with Quakers is that they believe once saved they can go about their lives like they never were saved. If you do not experienced a changed life, than you are not in the body of Christ.

And yes, from school I remember they were called Quakers because of something along those lines.

It is a short but very biased description of Quakers. Quakers believe that one can have a personal experience with Christ. Read more here. Some Christians are unable to accept anyone outside of their extremely narrow belief system and defame other sects.

This post is very similar to one you made in the Mormon topic. I'm curious if you have any criteria that is essential to the Christian faith or if any group could qualify as a "sect" of the faith. :confused

I take their word that they believe in the teaching of Jesus. That is my only criteria. There are so many different versions I don't put any stock when someone says I have it right and so and so doesn't.

There is a hall in my town...

It's actually ran by the lutheran church believe it or not..

Weird. Do they do the "popcorn" preaching? I do not know what they call it, but it reminds me of that thing in school where you read a paragraph and then call someone else to read the next paragraph...

I kind of like that idea, not as a regular Sunday service, but I like a church where the congregation gets to talk and share God also.

I haven't any idea...

My friends father helps maintain the place:thumb:popcorn
