So it sounds like it's effects, if any, would be similar to drinking mild coffee.I was just digging around the interlinks and found this.
Raw chocolate contains the alkaloid called theobromine, and this is how it can affect your body:
- Theobromine, which is an alkaloid found in cacao does have an impact on the human central nervous system, smaller yet similar to caffeine and also stimulates the heart to a greater degree.(1,2)
- Theobromine has been cited as potentially causing addiction to chocolate (3)
- Theobromine can also cause restlessness, sleeplessness, tremors and anxiety. (4)

Thanks a lot for the replies. I try to limit the quantity of sugar I consume. That is the reason I had to buy this stuff.
Who has ever tasted pure and raw cocoa? It is dreadfully bitter. So when you buy that stuff for your tea (name withheld - I guess you all know them)and taste it...it is next to sugar.
There are other ingredients tho. However I wonder the quantity of sugar that was added to completely 'tame' the bitterness. I was really scared.
There is a particular drink (alcoholic) that contains roughly 19 cubes of sugar. Yet it is fantastically bitter. Imagine the taste without 19 cubes.
So after considering all these I had to go natural with the raw and unadulterated stuff
But why would you choose to use raw cocoa if it tastes so terrible? (Yeah, I've tasted it.) It's just one ingredient in chocolate and isn't a substitute for chocolate any more than flour is a substitute for a donut!
Yes,it is very bitter. When I could have chocolate I would eat the darkest chocolate I could buy at the store. If you eat it right it is very healthy. But rawBut why would you choose to use raw cocoa if it tastes so terrible?
