RC and EO Hierarchy

JM said:
Where do the RC and EO receive authority from?

From Christ and his apostles, through their successors. You don't just get up and say "I'm gonna be a Bishop" and start a diocese. You have to be ordained a Bishop by a Bishop. It's called apostolic succession and without it the great commission could not have been fullfilled.

How do you know your Bishop has apostolic succession and how do you know apostolic succession is a valid form of authority? Who told you?

Ahhhh, you missed the point.

Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

And who is 'them' that have the rule over you? Who told you they were 'them?'

That's my point...lol, and we go round and round.
We go 'round and 'round because you avoid the questions, Jason. Now if you'd be so kind....

If you'd recall the op, I asked the question, you refused to answer...remember?

Just in case you missed it: Where do the RC and EO receive authority from?

No, I didn't miss anything. Wasn't it you that accused me of being sola tradition? How do I know? a) Through scripture, examining it in light of Sacred tradition b) examining Sacred Tradition in light of scripture c) most of all by the grace of God.

considering c, it doesn't surprize me that you think we're on some sort of merry-go-round.

Your tradition tells you want to believe, everything is flitered via tradition. Considering tradition is of man, you follow the traditions of man.

This makes it hard for you to answer the question...which you and OC have yet to do. This isn't about sola scriptura, it's about tradition. See the op, and stop using red herrings.

Jason, Jason, your being coy is so very in character for you. I will assume that if you refuse to answer, it is because you haven't got an answer. We both know that I do, so in kindness and deference to your weak position, I've given you first go.

Now Jason, one last time: where does your authority come from?
Refusal to answer will be taken as a default admission that you in fact have no answer.[/quote:44666]

see op, this is a RED HERRING which is used because you don't have a valid answer...now do you!

lol

A trad is a person that follows tradition.

Trail of blood! lol, you don't even know what you're talking about. I've seen you refer to it a few times.

Better read up and you'll see why I don't accept all of it as historical fact.

Which tradition is correct, the RC's believe in Scripture and tradition while the Orthodox believe Scripture IS PART OF tradition? Which one and who told you (this is the question Thess asks often)?

Is this a question you'll answer? Or can we stay on topic? I'd prefer the latter.

I perfer a question to the op, this thread has been hijacked by red herrings.

Your very confused. I believe scripture is a part of tradition. That's what 2 Thes 2:15 means when it says "hold fast to the TRADITIONSSSSS you have recieved, whether by word of mouth (no transition from tradition) or in writing from us.". The writings are a tradition. A teaching passed on through generations. There is scripture and sacred oral tradition but these are both types of tradition. OC and I are in complete agreement on this point and most others I might add.
