Recommended Movies

Post your recommended movies here.

I'm curious to know what good movies are out there that would be interesting to watch with someone. Please give a short description with the quality and contents of each one if you could.

For some Christian movies I like at the top of my head, I like:

Flywheel
Facing the Giants
Fireproof

All of those three are Sherwood Pictures films.

I also am remembering:

The Terminal: A movie where Tom Hanks plays as an immigrant who is stuck in a terminal and cannot leave on US soil, and cannot go home. He's stuck until war in his homeland is fixed. There's some cursing and mentioning of sex.

Catch Me if You Can: Tom Hanks and Leonardio Dicaprio play in a movie based on a true story. Has cursing and some "sex scenes". The story is about how someone could forge checks in the old days and make a living off of it.

Up: My personal favorite Pixar movie. I don't like all Disney movies, but you can't go wrong with the Pixar division. All of Pixar's movies are great. This is about an old man who flies his house on balloons to go on an adventure to South America. Great clean fun, but I do not suggesting reading up the story before watching it. Do not spoil yourself. This movie has everything.

What movies do you recommend?

A Gentleman's Agreement
Accadamy Award Best Picture winner for 1947. Gregory Peck portrays a writer who tells everyone he's Jewish, so he can write about antisemitism from a Jew's point of view.

Simon Birch
Simon Birch is a 12 year old midgit who believes that God made him that small for a purpose. It contains plenty of comedy, such as "the church's first full-contact Christmas pageant" (I'm not giving mor of that away, you'll just have to see it), but is also quite thought-provoking regarding faith. My favorite quote from the movie:

Simon is being punished for misbehaving in church...
Rev. Russell: What are you doing sitting in a corner Simon?
Simon: Thinking about God.
Rev. Russell: In a corner?
Simon: Faith is not in a floor plan.

The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry
An old man gets a boy to mow his lawn and then invites him and to share the Bible with him. This leads to forming a Bible study group with the neighborhood teenagers.

Patch Adams
The true story (or, at least, the Hollywoodized version of the true story) of Patch Adams, a medical student who wanted to help people. He believed that medicin should be more about the patient than the disease and used humor to treat people and founded the Gesundheit Institute (patchadams.org) to treat people who have neither money nor insurance.

I've seen that. Great movie with Robin Williams in it. Of course, I do remember some crude jokes though. He turns the entrance to a building at the university into a "yknow what" between a woman's legs.
