Growth Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

There are no doctrines in relation to John the Baptist teaching. So who are the disciples of John the Baptist?

I have not met ones. However, if your heart tells you this is what you are, then this is what you are. So you have got one in front of you. A disciple of John the Baptist.

Whoever were followers of John the Baptist (if there were any) became followers of Christ once He started His ministry. John would have made sure to accede his ministry over to Christ, therefore, bringing his to an end.

Joh 1:25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
Joh 1:26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
Joh 1:27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

What Knotical said is the way I see it.
John the Baptist ministry was to the Jews to prepare the way for the Messiah.
So maybe there are some people who compare their ministry to John's if they witness today to the Jews, about the Messiah.

I just would like to remind that I opened this topic in the section called Foundation of Faith.

There are some amazing words that John the Baptist says:

"He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease."

John talks about the bride, but John also talks about the friend.

As a friend of the bridegroom, I am greeting you, the bride. You see?

John the Baptist was yet another testimony to Christ...just like the rest of scriptures. If someone were to tell me that everyone's human experience was scripture, I wouldn't be bothered at all...because everyone's life points to Christ anyway. Everyone's testimony is valid. I don't believe we should pump up the messenger, but I think that everyone has at least something we can learn about God.

Why would you be content just be a friend to the bridegroom or the bride? Why would you not want to be the bride?

Are there no guests at the wedding?
Well, if you aren't the bride or the bridegroom, who else would you be, and would you even be invited to the "wedding?"

Really, what benefit would there be for just being a "friend" of the bridegroom? That would not get you into heaven.

Notice that He that hath the Bride Is the bridegroom.....All believers.

but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice

This depicts loser believers and winner believers. some will becomes "friends" with the bridegroom and some will stray away from true doctrine.

"The voice of the Bridegroom" is bible doctrine. Some will become intimate friends through bible doctrine. Some will not. But they are all a part of the bridegroom........"He that hath the bride is the bridegroom:

I don't see it that way.

I think that the bride is the Church, and the friends are anyone outside the Church. We should NOT be making distinctions between us as to who is "better" and who is worse. There is nothing that irritates me more than a "holier than thou" attitude and all this talk about "I have the 'truth' and you need to come back to the truth." Our focus is not to be on who is right and who is wrong. Our focus should be on love. The harshest criticism Jesus had was for people with that kind of attitude...ones so focused on "being right" and "the law".

The bride is the Church, and If one does not see that there are "levels" in the Church, one has to be blind.

No matter what the individual does, once in the Church, He/she is always part of the Church.

I am Not a "great man of God" but I am Still a part of the Church. If I were expected to be "great" I would never get there.

One more thing, Anyone outside of the body of Christ is NOT part of the bridegroom. The Church and being part of the Bride is for believers only!

What John taught was repentance, which is needed before one can accept the Messiah. In this sense all Christians are disciples of John before they become disciples of Christ. :twocents

There are no Disciples of John the Baptist. His roll was to point the way to Christ and baptize Him. John the Baptist, then, gave his disciples to Christ. Please keep your posts to inspiration and spiritual growth.

Thank you

I can see what you are saying in reference to "foundation of faith".

Every disciple of John the Baptist was/is looking for something greater. Even today there are plenty of unknowing disciples of John the Baptist who have tacitly accepted his baptism of water(repentance from one's old life) yet then fail to identify and accept Christ Jesus and His baptism of the Holy Spirit into Christianity, thus depriving themselves of inspiration and spiritual growth.

Luk 3:16
John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

Just knowing your life has to change and searching for truth is a necessary first step, but it is as insignificant if it doesn't lead you to Christ.

John does not testify of himself as being the bride, but the friend. Here is what Jesus Christ testifies about John the Baptist:

"Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he."

As a friend of the bridegroom, I am greeting you, the bride. Each of you, the bride, is greater than me.
