Faith means trust, and regardless of what occurs in the remainder of our lives in Christ, we can rest in where that trust is—in the Lord Jesus! According to the pace as the Lord teaches each of us, we are to “rest” (cease) from the works of “the old man,” and rely on Christ in the “new man. Before regeneration, we spent our whole life relying on self, and now we will be spending the rest of our lives learning to rely on God, in the life of Christ, by the Holy Spirit—through the “word of truth.”
Habits are not easily broken, esp. those of the Adamic nature, thus it will take time to learn to mistrust ourselves, by reckoning on God’s word, the Scriptures! Patience is the primary manifestation of faith, for “the trying of your faith produces patience” (Jam 1:3), and it is the most exercised attribute concerning our entire Christian walk, because the overall goal of progressing “from glory to glory” in our being “conformed” requires time, yea, the rest of our lives.
The more we comprehend and trust God in Romans 8:28, the more consistently we can apply 1 Peter 5:7 and the remnant of Scripture, and thus we can be peaceful enough to be increasingly used of God in understanding His written word, thereby “drawing” ever closer in our fellowship with Him, which also results in the increase of our outreach effectiveness, esp. to new converts. There are many unnecessary difficulties encountered early in the Christian life (which often persists extendedly) that could be alleviated if more Biblical fundamental truths were understood in the outset.
