Restitution: What the Bible Teaches.

The bible talks and emphasises restititution. We know the quotes. But what exactly should these people do....should them keep it or discard them?

1. A criminal who stole a lot of things
2. A whore who made a lot of money out of this business.
3. One of the kids in your home isn't your husband's blood son/daughter.

Etc

So if these people become Christians should they also keep all they made? Or should they discard them???

I'm serious 'cause I don't know what to believe here any more. I think the right thing is discard or return them

Dan had to face this very thing.... he was drug dealer and all the trash that goes with dealing. Praise the Lord his jail house 'come to Jesus moment' stuck! He came to us to ask forgiveness for the many different abuses he had inflected on our daughter. He asked about restitution.....Restitution for this kind of thing? Dan you be the best father to your sons you can be.... that one was forward..... How do I repay those I stole from I don't know who are where they all are.... Give back some how, pray about it... Well God sent him to Mexico on a mission trip to build a bathroom for a church...

Rom_15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

You are so right Edward as it is not always possible to give back that which you took, but as God has forgiven our trespasses and remembers them no more then we ourselves need to move on when it is impossible for restitution to be made and give back to others by helping to meet their needs.

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Romans 10:10
Just Repent to God! No need for works! The Blood of Jesus has done it all! However there may be consequences for your actions.

This deals with a truly repentant heart. A truly repentant heart desires to restore to wholeness anyone we many have harmed. A false respentence won't have a heart to do such as this.

Luke 19:1-10

New International Version (NIV)

Zacchaeus the Tax Collector

19 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.
7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”
8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”
9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

What does the Law of Moses say in the OT? Of course I am speaking about restitution, making things right again. What would be the modern day equivalent (principles)? The Law is the righteous standard in effect yet. Christ (Yahshua) died and became a curse for us, and took that curse, but the principles of the Law is still the standards of righteousness yet.

So, I am not talking about forgiveness, of course, nor punishment, as Christ took that, but rather the Law's way to physically restore these things.

We just need to do good and do all we can to help people in general. That way when God puts the evil we have done to harm people on one side of a scale and the good on the other side. Then hopefully the good will outweigh the bad we have done to others. In general people are going to treat us the way we treat others. Not always the exact same people though. We maybe good to one person and they will return evil onto us. Yet another person will come along and the good will return through them.
