Bible Study Romans 13

What does Romans 13:1-7 mean?

______________

Hi, lets post the verses (+) with the added verses to answer what portion of the Eternal Covenant that Paul was talking about? NOTHING ON WORSHIP, only ones duty to mankind alone.
Rom.13

[1] Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

[2] Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

[3] For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

[4] For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

[5] Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

[6] For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

[7] Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

[8] Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

[9] For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

There is to be NOTHING SEEN with having Caesar involved with or in the first four commandments of Worshipping God.

Even take note of the Legal seperation found in Matt. 22:35-40 asked of Christ from an attorney! Two tables of Stone, with two Commandments with ONE BEING GREATER THAN THE OTHER! [[FIRST AND GREAT COMMANDMENT, CHRIST DOCUMENTED!]]

What does Romans 13:1-7 mean?

In a nut shell, For me it means i should be the best citizen i can be. That would mean different things in different places.

Those verse tell me God is in control even when we dont/can't see it.

When I've read Romans 13, three things have stood out to me:

  1. Delegation of authority
  2. Submission
  3. Purpose
Just as the Triune God delegates authority within Himself (1 Cor 15:27), God delegates authority here on earth to our governing leaders.

Verse 5 explains that we are to submit ourselves to them, since He has Ordained them and put them in place.

The purpose of government is to punish evil and condone good. (vs. 3 & 4) But, they must submit to His Authority, using His Word to determine good and evil. When the state creates their own good and evil, they in effect make themselves god. In Exodus 9, God tells Moses to go to Pharaoh and tell him (vs. 16) "But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." God has raised up our leaders so that His Power is made known. The apostles demonstrate that we are called to disobey when we are told to do things that are sins against Him.

What about this example... If the law states that we must wear a seatbelt while driving, are we sinning if we choose not to wear our seatbelt?

Sinning? I believe it comes down to what's motivating you to not obey the law. I'll be interested in other opinions, but I believe it would enter into the "sin" category if you didn't wear one out of disobedience and disregard. This would be a condition of the heart that refuses to follow the law. I believe you could take it out of the realm of "sin" if you were convinced seat belts were more dangerous than not having one. I'm quite she's wrong, but my mother has the fear that she'll be trapped in one and not be able to get out if she's in an accident. I feel both are "wrong", but one is a sin while one is not because of the motivation.

There's also the image you would be projecting to observers. We can be guilty of lawlessness by not honoring rules we don't agree with, and project this (intended or not) to others around us.

1 Peter 2
"13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. 16 Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. 17 Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king."

When the USA issues the decree to enforce the mark of the beast, then it will be an easy thing for some here to agree with Caesars decree??? Perhaps Christian's best study Daniel for why the King 'Rom. 13 Law' was NOT OBEYED 'several times' by Daniel, or by God's Christian [[MEN]].

And N.T.?? It was not only Peter in Acts 5:27-29 but 'Peter and the other apostles' answered and said.. [WE AUGHT TO OBEY GOD RATHER THAN MAN.]

I suggest that the forum does much more :studyStudy on What Christ [DOCUMENTED] for who one might dangerously put above His Words! Matt. 2:21, Mark 12:16-17 + Luke 20:24-25. With the Law of God on the Worship tablet side, has nothing for Caesar to be involved with!
Never can Caesar be obeyed when Christ is required to be seen in DISOBEDIENCE!

The Beast is man's government.

The Mark of The Beast, like all scripture, is given so that we may understand God and how to serve Him better. The Mark of The Beast teaches us that the Lord demands uncompromising obedience and unswerving dedication. The Beast represents the archetype of the tyrannical state, which is opposed to God’s Word and God’s Law.

In scripture, the Beast is defined as kings (Daniel 7:17, Revelation 17:10-12), and man-made kingdoms (Daniel 7:18,23, Revelation 16:10) that have power to make war and kill (Revelation 11:7; 17:14). The Beast is the government, with rulers and armies, that are against God and his servants (Revelation 19:19). Jesus said, "He that is not with me is against me" (Matthew 12:30, Luke 11:23). So rulers that enforce laws contrary to God’s Law, are the Beast.

Followers of the Beast receive his mark of ownership; submission to ungodly, anti-Christian law. The mark is an allusion to the Old Testament symbol of man’s total obedience to God, and stands as a warning that a society’s God (whether the true God or the state) demands complete commitment in all areas of life. Christians cannot compromise (2 Cor.6:14-18). The state is not absolute, it’s under authority of Christ (Psalm 2, Matthew 28:18); it’s an instrument of God (Romans 13:1-7). It has no license to do whatever it likes. It's ordained purpose is for a rod of correction; to speak the Word of God, to punish evil, and to reward good (Romans 13:4, 1 Peter 2:14, Hebrews 13:7). That is its only authorized purpose.

Who gives power to the Beast? The dragon (Revelation 13:2,4). Who is the dragon? This dragon is the spirit of satan (Revelation 12:9). Those who have the spirit of satan make war with those who "...keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ" (Revelation 12:17). The Lord God has revealed Himself as God, but the spirit of satan is the god and prince of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4 John 12:31).

Maybe it would be good to direct the focus back to the intended study on the titled scripture, Romans 13 rather than discuss the beast.

Mike. Beast is GOVERNMENT in Scripture. (Dan. 2 + 7 & Rev. 13:1...') What the subject is saying is that because Rom. 13 has been granted Government rule by God upon His condition of seperating of His Church from the first four commandments, that these verses [only cover], that we are to honor their direction even in $ support as OUR DUTY TO MANKIND. (The second 6 Commandments)

And one has got study other portion's of the Word of God to see the requirement of God on this. In Rev. 13:11 we see what many understand to be USA coming up from 'the earth' meaning a new government in place. And we see the change from a 'lamb' & then spake as a 'dragon'. (Dan. 7 has beasts as governments, & Rev. 12 finds the devil as a dragon)

Perhaps this is to much for most? yet, it is finding that Rom. 13 is to again be quoted over & over again to the ones who will not go against God in His Commandments! Including honor to caesar as is possible, until we see the combination of church + state & forced worship in breaking anyone of the first four Commandments of God.

Study again Matt. 22:35-40 & the TWO TABLES now written into the Heart & Mind by the New Birth. 2 Cor. 3:3 'Epistle' or letter of Christ's MORAL MAKEUP to us.
