Romans 8

I will be posting a few verses and sharing thoughts.

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. (Romans 8:3-5 KJV)

I really like this verse. When I read it I am seeing God is there and wants us to follow after him in his spirit and not worldly things that could lead us astray.

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. (Romans 8:9-11 NIV)

I don't completely think I am getting the full meaning of it but when I read it I hear, because we sin and are of flesh we will die, but because we have the same spirit that raised Jesus, we will live.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. (Romans 8:12, 13 NIV)

Again...same thing I'm getting out of this.

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:31, 32 NIV)

God will live forever and back us up! For this I raise my arms in worship and pray praise to him. This is like the song with these lyrics:

And if Our God is for us, then who could ever stop us.
And if our God is with us, then what can stand against?


For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38, 39 NIV)

This Is a powerful preach it moment I get. When I read this verse, I got chills... (And there multiplying, and I'm loosing control.) heh..couldn't help it...


Yes, teens feel free to comment as well as staff as I know this is just a quick little study but I think we need to see this as teens and get it.

hopefully you don't feel ignored. I have had some assignments on recently, but in a few days I'm on mid-semester break, so I will get into this Bible Study very soon.

In the meantime, I moved it to the new teens Bible Study forum :)
 
So here are my thoughts and how I interperted it.

I like this verse because for me it's like "Rebellion on the world to follow Christ!" Just because it is saying don't follow the world, follow Christ. I am thinking of that Dr Pepper comercial where everyone is wearing red and there is one girl wearing white that says rebel. We are rebelling against worldileness to follow Christ because following Christ is not following the crowd. so yeah just my thoughts.

Because we are sinners our bodies are going to die but because of Christ our spirits will live and and the same Spirit that went and got Jesus's body from the grave is going to come and get us and bring us up to heaven too. :)

Sin is not holding us down so we don't have to live by it but since the spirit gives us life that is something we should live by. So by doing that a change will happen and we will then not be bound by sin.

OK I'm just gonna say this about it...BEST SONG EVER! :D And the Bible verse basically what Jman said.

Haha yeah. I honestly think that Romans 8 is a very powerful chapter in the bible, full of encouragement and amazing. Thanks for your comments. I highly agree with what you were saying. When it comes to that song, Lolz I love it!
 
Well you are very welcome. I like Romans 8 and the song is one of my favorites. I have the lyrics up in my room. hehe.

Let's start at this passage. What was the purpose of the Law, or what we typically focus on, the Ten Commandments?

JF97, you are right that a notion rebelion does relate to this passage, but it is more in light of our rebelion against GOD, not the world or flesh. Think about it this way, what do most men and women do naturally, follow the Lord or the world? I think we would agree that it is typically the world we chase after until we meet God.

What this passage gets at right off the bat is that even with the laws given by God, which the world still gets many of its legal concepts through, there is no redemption of sin from the law alone. Why? because one transgression makes you and I a law breaker, or a sinner. One sins wage is death.

Jman, God certainly does not want to lead us astray. In fact, the law was given in order that man could see our own wickedness! God wants us to see ourselves as we truly are, worthless sinners who cannot maintain simple list of ten laws.

All this goes to show how excellent and amaxing the death of Jesus Christ was! He became the image of sin and shame, lived through and yet triumphed over the same struggles we have, and yet remained sinless. (Hebrews 4:15) If that wasn't enough, he took the punishment that we deserved under the law, and died to fulfill the righteous requirements of the law.

It is in this, that the Holy Spirit then teaches us to live, not back at the same place we started, but rather continuing our lives where Jesus left off. We do rebel against the sin of the world, but we more so completely embrace the amazing grace of Jesus's death and forgiveness, and therefor use it to live lives that honor Christ.

To show us our sinfullness, our complete inability to come to God. We need a saviour.

But the Law could never save. It was always through fatih and through the Spirit.


I really like verses 26 and 27, which has so far been missed:

26Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. (KJV)​

I find these couple of verses both humbling and encouraging. The Spirit intercedes for us. I take great comfort in knowing that we're not left alone to talk to God.

I find the 'groanings which cannot be uttered' very cool. :thumb

Nick, you right on. The beauty of the law is not only does it reveal man's sinfulness, but it proves God's righteousness and Holiness. We cannot fulfill the righteousness of the law because we naturally rebel against it. This is why we need the Spirit to walk, rather than our flesh, because otherwise we have not shot at righteoussness.

You passage there Nick is pretty neat in light of this passage because it also shows just how much the Holy Spirit personally desires God's people to be holy and cared for!
 
Hey now, the truth is that we all come to scripture with more to learn. Just answer just like you started. Say what you see and let the fellowship of your peers offer insights you might not have noticed.

When I first read this I read it as "better than drugs" and that made me think of skillet's song "better than drugs" so now I'm gonna have to listen to that sometime tonight :lol

but yes it is better than a lot of things

(they are talkin' about JESUS, NOT DRUGS!!! just in case you didn't get that...hehe)
 
Now, let's get back to the topic...

Keeping in mind that we cannot meet the requirements of the law, how in the world could Paul say that the righteousness of the law was fulfilled in us?
