Santa Claus & Christmas in general

My family tradition of Christmas when I was little and growing up was that Santa had a special key to come through my door because i don't have a chimney & I used to always leave a carrot for Rudolph and 2 biscuits & a glass of milk for Santa. But that was before I became a Christian although i was only 8 when I started going to church when it came to the Christmas services our minister at the time would always ask the other children what santa had brought them because most of them were too young to understand really what christmas was about & I was one of them.
But now I realise what christmas is about; JESUS! & i've learned that you never take Christ out of Christmas even when your writing your Christmas cards don't write 'Xmas' because it saves you time write Christmas! that's what I have been taught I don't know how anyone else feels about Christmas.
Now that the festive Spirit is upon everyone I still make time to remember Jesus in my mind and I have always thought to myself what it must have been like when He was born. All I can say is it must have been truly something special if there is still so many people around the world celebrating the true meaning of Christmas.

Our family did the whole 'santa' and presents thing, but we always knew what Christmas was truly about - Christ! I grew/am growing up in a Christian household, so I guess that make a difference.
Now of course I don't believe in santa anymore, but we still do it for the heck of it, besides I've got a new baby brother as well!
As I grow older I find less joy in the prezzies and more in the birth of Christ and the fellowship of fellow Christians.

Well, my family always tried to do a pretty good job of keeping the Christ in Christmas. We would always read Bible verses and stuff around Christmas, along with put cookies and milk out for Santa. Apparently, even when I was a little kid, I knew Christmas' true meaning; because when I chose to get Baptized, at the age of seven, I had to choose a day to get Baptized. I wanted to choose an important day, I could have chosen my birthday, but no, I chose Jesus' birthday! Well, that's what I wanted, but I got Christmas Eve, for whatever reason that Christmas day wasn't do-able.
Also, the whole 'gotta be good for Santa to give you presents' thing is a good moral-instiller, even though it is only brought up during the month or so before Christmas ;).
P.S.: @ Stacey: the secret key thing made me laugh, we stuck with the Chimney story even when we didn't have one xD. We didn't really care how he got in, as long as he did.
P.S.S.: random fact about me. 'We' is my brothers and I. I am the eldest of 4 blonde-haired, blue-eyes boys, lol.

My family never really enforced the whole Santa thing, so neither I or my sister ever really believed in him. We would exchange gifts and fill stockings, but us kids always knew it was from each other and not Santa. We weren’t the types to go around ruining the belief of Santa for everyone else, but we just never took up much of the tradition and stories.
I don’t think I’ll pass the idea of Santa to my future children either. I don’t want to tell them one thing, but reveal it wasn’t true a few years down the road. If anything, I’ll probably just tell them the story of the original Saint Nicholas, which I think has much more value. But I would rather stick to the fact that it is Christ’s birthday and that’s the reason for the holiday. It just seems nicer to me.

Ya... I believed in Santa, however I ruined it for me and my sister when I was 4 or so asking if Santa was real. My sister was pretty upset lol. Anyways, I find it kind of interesting the similarities of Santa and Christ. He knows what you've done good, bad, when your sleeping or awake, he is jolly lol idk. But I want to hear your opinions, do you think Santa takes from Christ? Or is harmless and makes Christmas better?

It makes me sad because Christmas should have Christ in it, and nowadays Him being in it is really minimal. Not only that, but Saint Nicholas, who was an incredible man, is being almost made a mockery of at this point. Santa, on his own, could be fine. It could be used to help teach children morals, or how to behave. To be nice, etc. However, now he’s just a guy that gives kids presents on some holiday in December. I personally think Saint Nicholas, a man who struck another for insulting Christ, would not appreciate what his figure is being used for.
Basically, i have nothing against Saint Nicholas, just what he has been turned into today.

I grew up with santa claus and all of the stories around it and based on it and about 5 years ago i came to my actual LEGITIMATE conclusion that none of these guys Santa Claus, Easter bunny, Tooth fairy were actually real. I don't think that Santa Claus takes away from Christmas nearly as much as the easter bunny absolutely robs easter. I dont know where this came from but it completely robs easter clean and blind. Easter isn't really held in high reguards in relation to the other holidays but i think it should really compete with Christmas. Santa Claus has the kids be good and all and maybe they will end up finding that its good and it can be beneficial. Although i am not really a huge Santa Claus person it is still okay. But the Easter bunny completely highjacked Easter.

My parents never did the Santa thing, or the Easter bunny. It's always been very clear that it's about God, and Jesus. Of course, we always knew about Santa, and occasionally watched movies with him in it, but I never believed he was real. And I don't plan on telling my future kids that he's real either.
And I agree with Ambrose about the Easter bunny completely. Where'd the rabbit even come from? And why is Easter(We call it "Resurrection Day" at my house) such a small deal, compared to Christmas, Thanksgiving, and even Halloween? (Although, at my house, it is a bigger deal than Halloween, but no where near as big a fuss as Christmas, Thanksgiving, ect. Then again, a low-key event is probably more fitting anyway.)

I agree with you, Perhaps a smaller scale holiday is better? Maybe but i don't think these figures (easter bunny in particular) are really necessary for our holidays and take away from the actual focus and what we should actually be celebrating. But the tooth fairy of course is completely harmless for little kids to believe in. That one doesn't really do any damage
