I do know how to season cast iron skillets and have done it before (am doing one at the moment actually, again) and it hit me...I have a stove top cast iron griddle in between the two pairs of burners. It is a part of the stove. Should I season this also?

I googled it and I couldn't find an answer on it. All it would show me is seasoning cast iron skillets and nothing about griddles. But I know that one of you (at least) Brothers or Sisters here could answer that for me. Perhaps our resident chef? I bet he knows, he seems to know everything almost, lol! .

I think, yeah I prolly should, but otoh, is it done the same way as a regular cast iron skillet? I think *maybe* this griddle has some sort of non stick finish on it because it is not black like my skillets. It is a dark grey, but I'm sure it's cast.

If it is cast iron, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to season it to keep it in good working order =)

I have never had to re-season any cast-iron cookware UNLESS it was washed with soap or not properly dried. Never, never, never use soap on a cast-iron skillet, griddle, dutch oven, etc. Wash only with water and then dry promptly. It will last a lifetime.

You could always get a paper towel moist with olive oil, wipe it down and put it in the oven for a while and see what happens.

I had a well seasoned cast-iron frypan and one day my roommate's sister decided to do us a favor and wash the dishes including my frypan. The pan rusted and it took a bit of work to re-season that pan once again. It never really did recover completely to its former way.

The more you use a cast-iron pan the better it gets and it is not required to oil it down between uses. Just don't let it sit wet so it can rust.
