"And we have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him." Colossians 3:10
For almost 100 years a huge piece of flawed Carrara marble lay in the courtyard of a cathedral in Florence, Italy. Then, in 1501, a young sculptor was asked to do something with it. He measured the block and noted its imperfections.
For three years, he chiseled and shaped the marble skillfully. Finally, when the 18-foot towering figure of David was unveiled, his student exclaimed to Michelangelo, "Master, it lacks only one thing--speech."
The discarded marble actually got a second chance and became one of the most famous statues of the centuries. There are many examples in the Bible of people that the Lord gave second chances to. One of them was Onesimus. He was a slave to Philemon. Onesimus ran away and also stole from Philemon. Paul was responsible for Onesimus' conversion. He wrote a letter to Philemon asking him to forgive and welcome Onesimus back as a brother of Christ.
How good are you when it comes to forgiving those who have sinned against you? Maybe they haven't really sinned against you but they are outcasts in society and considered less than human to a massive number of people in society.
Are we to treat them the same way we the world would treat them or are we to welcome them back, forgive them, and treat them as a Christian brother? Just like the flawed piece of marble, many people have flaws and backgrounds that we don't like, but we need to learn to welcome them back and forgive them.View attachment 4334
