Set up for failure

Why does God create us as imperfect beings, and then judge us, as if He expects us to be perfect? Why would he punish us for following the "sinful" nature that He is ultimately responsible for?

.
Adam and Eve weren't created imperfect. They were created perfect but God gave them choice and freewill and they failed to make the right choice. Sin originated from there and passed down to mankind. God does not expect us to be perfect because it is impossible. He only expects us to be obedient and faithful to Him, and that is sufficient for salvation.

Rom 9:
16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy.
17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might show my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.
19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
22 What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,
24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

Several errors in this post (by the way, welcome :wave )

1. Adam and Eve were created perfect. Sin changed everything.
2. God desires that we would choose to live perfect, but this is so impossible, He became human and sacrificed Himself (well, His Son) to atone for our sins, because we couldn't do this on our own.
3. God doesn't punish us for our sins. We punish ourselves by rejecting His sacrifice for our sins which we are responsible for - not God.

By the way, we welcome a variety of opposing views to be board. It is expected that you read the Terms of Service early on to avoid violations to rules that you didn't know were in place.

Gal 3:22
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
(KJV)

If we were not born into sin, then would we need The Saviour? No. That's why NONE born in the flesh can be perfect, EXCEPT Jesus The Christ. Only He was in the flesh and had no sin. Only GOD can do that, which is why He is The Saviour for those who believe on His death and resurrection. He is the Perfect Sacrifice for us, our Passover Lamb of the New Covenant.

Now if you're asking how did sin originate, that's about the first sin which the devil did when he and his angels rebelled against The LORD GOD, in a time before Adam was formed in God's Garden. That's the reason why God's Plan of Salvation through His Son became necessary. And now it's time to decide whether we want to live in eternity with The LORD, in true peace and righteousness, or to perish with the devil in the lake of fire. Now is the time for each to decide. And the time is getting real... short.

I used to share your views until shockingly recently. I always felt like Satan was standing around every corner waiting for me to sin so I could burn in hell with him. And right next to Satan stood God, waiting for me to sin so He could punish me.

Nothing could be further from the truth. As Mike and Tina said; He sent His Son to be tortured to death for our sins because He loves us and wants to spend the rest of eternity with Him. I won’t sacrifice my daughter for anyone, and I can hardly fathom how much God must love me to have sacrificed His Son for me. That doesn’t sound like an unfair, cruel God. It sounds like a God who loves us more than I can get my head around.

So no, we were not set up for failure, because Jesus took my sin upon Him before I was even born. I came into this world with all the grace and opportunities that God could bestow on me. :clap3

Because if righteous can then you can. If the Christians can then you can. You can't because you are not willing to follow. God's instruction is not that difficult to follow, believing in Jesus Christ then it's all done deal. Yet you choose to refuse, that's the problem.

I have thought about this question as well, and have to disagree. It is impossible for a perfect creature to fail so Adam and Eve could not have been perfect. God is perfect, so do you think it is possible for God to fail too?

So when do you suppose sin entered ? ... Before or After Adam and Eve were created ?

And how do you interprete this Scripture ?

Genesis 1:31
Then God saw everything that He had made , and indeed it was very good.

He’s not judging us. He is raising us as his children. Any responsible parent punishes a child, when necessary, for their own good.

Well said Tina :yes We cannot be perfect by ourselves but with God's help we can. "Nothing is impossible with God's help" says, Jesus.

We were created perfect, however through choice sin enters into our lives.

Free will is a God given gift, and ironically, if the wrong choices are made (which they were by Adam and Eve) sin is able to enter our lives.

iE, would you like it if God took away your free will? The price of free will is sin.
