Sex and nudity, potty mouths, and blasphemies is now okee dokee for tons of Christians. Went to a village inn fellowship years ago. I'm ready to talk about Jesus. The whole evening was all about the latest movies. They weren't trashy movies but they were movies with trash in them. This has now become acceptable fare to the body of Christ, not all but many.
I have noticed this also. Someone might bring up a certain movie that I had heard there was some naked/nasty stuff in it. I would point that out and they would say 'well I never saw that in there'. This has happened more than once. They are either blinded to it, why, I don't know, or they are out right lying. You tell me.

This is sadly the norm now in society. It's unfortunate, but you get sex, and potty mouth talk on daytime/prime time TV. All women are made to be objects, even when it's not the intention. (Look at Rachel in Friends). The 4 letter D word is ALL over prime time television. My point is this. It's hard to avoid it sadly. The best thing we can do is to just not give into it. Just because society says its okay(and we shouldn't judge them on that), Does not mean it has to be okay for us. Lead by example. Don't say those words, tell friends you don't wanna go see those movies because of the language. Just stand firm on it, but I'm afraid if you do it completely, you'll miss out on a lot.

Miss out on a lot? Miss out on a lotta trash that will cause the Holy Spirit to withdraw His blessings and more, send a demon to harass you.be real careful, set no evil thing before your eyes.

I will posts this again.... Mama said "Reba don't go to any movie you wouldn't take Jesus with you to see" I have passed on a lot, sadly not all, of movies TV etc sense 1962

I didn't say it was the way I lived my life, and I try to stay away from things like porn. But as far as TV shows like friends, modern family, etc. I'm mature enough to know what's appropriate to mock, and what's not. The life you're describing is sheltered. Now, will I let my kids watch that stuff before they're mature enough to know better...probably not.

Also, Melissa McCarthy is one of my favorite actresses. She's got a potty mouth yes, but I'm mature enough to not mock her and that potty mouth.

As a believer, and follower of Christ, the Holy Spirit is in me. I know this; and you, nor anyone else has the right to tell me otherwise.

Agreed. I cancelled my cable tv, and when the bulb went out on my tv, I didn't even bother to fix it. I can get news on the internet.

...because the news is full of rainbows and good times???

I don't agree with everything in the shows I watch. Personally, that doesn't stop me from watching it unless they're clearly trying to glorify something that's wrong. But sometimes things just add to the story, or serve a real purpose.
Like there was a Christian movie I watched several months back, called How to Save a Life. It hinted at sexual activity at one point. It doesn't show anything or put it in a good light, but it does make it clear what happened. It was part of the story, tells us what kind of life the main character left when he became a Christian, and it leads to what happens later on in the movie. The movie had a good message, and ended up advocating for adoption instead of abortion, too.
That said, when it comes to sex and nudity in movies...I do think there is definitely a line to not cross. I wouldn't watch a movie with explicit sexual content.

But hey, stay true to your convictions. Personally, I do watch shows with some mature content, and it doesn't bother me--unless, again, it's glorifying something wrong and making it out to be a good thing.
But if it causes or tempts you to sin, and/or if you think it's wrong to watch a show that has anything you don't agree with in it, then avoid it.

No, because the news is full of current events. There's no need to get be hostile or snarky with members or moderators here, and I caution you to have a friendlier tone in your posts.

I was simply asking a question. Perhaps the last comment was snarky. My apologies, but I feel everything else has been civil. No unfriendly tone here.

Hi Withheld! I agree. We don't have cable and have seen very few movies made in the last 50 years. I love all the movies form the 40'5, 50's, TV shows like Perry Mason. Times have changed good stuff back then.

I have given up most forms of media as far as entertainment. I stopped watching tv in 2009 for the most part. but well what of sports? I mean a lot of female flesh is thrown in there, especially mma and boxing and aslo cheerleading.nevermind the female modeling shows and so forth.

I can sympathize; I don't watch much TV either.

Some so called sport is also sheer exhibitionism.

(I don't have a real problem with athletes' tank tops, though; it does get very hot for competitors sometimes.)

Blessings.

I understand that but well I see that daily but well I wont derail this thread on what I think that a believer should do while running or playing bball. the problem is that here in florida I see that daily. I have grown tolerant of that , lust issue sadly. but I know a believer who is married and runs early In the morning and DOESNT show flesh, she has a figure but well ya cant just not run and well ya know.. if a man looks and has issues then its not her fault she isn't flashing it.
.
one can do that with some of these sports.we don't need ring girls like that. but trying to change that is liking trying to force hooters to change their type of waiters. you decide. I don't watch must sports

jasoncran: I do know what you mean about exhibitionism.

I guess for a runner in a tank top, the main issue is the heat rather than exhibitionism.

(Two cents', anyway.)

Blessings.

yes but they don't have too, I run in the same weather they do. I run at night or at six in the morning.its not cool at night. would you call 77F a cold run and that is at 3 am? and I have seen women and men run at that time.

they don't wear tank tops btw its called a sport bra and that is all they wear while running with really short shorts or well those running briefs. I wont post pics but imagine an attractive women in that. you will get the drift.

I work in this weather all day, and I have worked out after it. my boss is also in the heat and is a triathelete. he has done iron man competitions and marathons. he does his training ere work and after.

The latter 60's is when Hollywood turned south. My all time favorite movie is 'How the West was Won'. Saw it when I was 14 at the Omaha Cinerama theater. One sexual remark in a 3 hour classic made by Robert Preston to Debbie Renolds was 'a woman like your sort traveling on a wagon train alone. It would be no time at all you'd be in trouble and it would be all heck just trying to figure out who'. That was it folks. That's as bad as it got back in the movies...up to the latter 60's when the Mickey Mouse Club kids became teenagers and decided to throw all morals to the wind....sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Later these same teenagers turned in their beads and bell bottoms for suits and ties and became politicians, public school teachers and college professors. We see how that's turning out. Oops...I think I'm getting off topic. Sorry.

uhm, I think that the people wanted it. while I am NOT denying tv can influence sin buts it merely a reflection of what already is.my uncle was born then he had sex with any girl that was willing and they were.
