<NationalReport>In a surprise weekend vote, the city council of Dearborn, Michigan voted 4-3 to became the first US city to officially implement all aspects of Sharia Law. The tough new law, slated to go into affect January 1st, addresses secular law including crime, politics and economics as well as personal matters such as sexual intercourse, fasting, prayer, diet and hygiene.

The new law could see citizens stoned for adultery or having a limb amputated for theft. Lesser offenses, such as drinking alcohol or abortion, could result in flogging and/or caning. In addition, the law imposes harsh laws with regards to women and allows for child marriage.

Some in town seem to welcome the new legislation while others have denounced the move as “abhorrent”, a threat to freedom and incompatible with the Constitution. When asked by National Report about the need for such a law, local resident Jeremy Ahmed stated:

“It is because of our need that Allah the Almighty, in all his generosity, has created laws for us, so that we can utilize them to obtain justice. We hope to see other cities taking this action in the face of the governments inaction of passing such legislation”.

Other local residents have taken to social media sites with comments ranging from “praise be to Allah” and “long live Islam” to “RIP Dearborn” and “Only in Obama’s America would an American city consider Sharia Law”.

The city of Dearborn is a well known safe haven for Muslims and Muslim sympathizers. With a population of around 98 thousand people, roughly 30% of its residence are Muslims making them the largest concentration of Muslims in the United States.

The dangers of Sharia Law in America were first outlined in a 2010 study produced by the Center for Security Policy (CSP) titled “Sharia: The Threat to America“, a 352-page book based on authoritative sources of Islamic law. While sharia includes strict rules for prayer and fasting, it is also an all-encompassing legal and political code that covers all aspects of life including those that have nothing to do with religion.

Although, this read reminds me of the wheat and the tares parable and how the tares plant themselves in a field next to the wheat, just like Islam or any other false belief comes in and plants themselves in a country supposedly based on Christian believes. This article may not be far from the truth in the coming years IMO.

I was going to say, friggen separation of church and state. It means the government is not allowed to establish a religion, and implementing sharia law would be doing exactly that.

The civil provisions of Sharia law have always been legal in the United States. Any civil contract willingly entered by competent adults, is enforceable, unless it contains things that would be otherwise illegal. A Muslim would have to sign an agreement to do so, of course.

No different than you signing an agreement with a merchant to submit any disputes to arbitration.

It's disturbing that people will fake stories like this, with no apparent motive but to arouse hatred between religious groups.

I agree completely about not spreading fake stories. However I'm not sure which "civil provisions" you are referring to but it seems the problem most Americans I've talked to have with this idea of Sharia law is that if it took hold it would be forced on all of us whether or not we agree to it.

From what I've been able to find out from sources that are not fake (or at least don't appear to be, that's the best I can do...) large parts of Sharia law would not be any kind of "contract" between willing parties to conduct legal affairs as we know them today. For example, a penalty of death by stoning for being caught in adultery is not legal in America but is required under Sharia law. Capital punishment for leaving a particular religion is not legal, yet Sharia law demands execution for leaving Islam. Slavery is not legal, but is allowed under Sharia law as well as making it legal to beat your slaves. Chopping off your hand for petty theft is not a legal punishment in America, but is required under Sharia law. Pedophilia is not legal, but is allowed and encouraged under Sharia law. These are just a few examples of the things that go along with Sharia law that will be forced on all who are forced to live under it.

There are many more problems with Sharia law, just as bad as the few I mentioned including the terrible treatment of women. Islamic leaders that push for Sharia law to be enacted here intend to have all of it enacted, not just a few benign parts that would only affect people who are crazy enough to voluntarily sign a contract or get forced or tricked into it. This can not be allowed to take place in the United Stated of America, no matter who is offended by that opposition. There are many things that are or have been practiced in other cultures that we have good reason not to allow here. This is not an issue of religious intolerance toward Muslims but is an issue of preserving American values and ideals, or what's left of them, for us and for our children. If people want to live under or enforce Sharia law, let them go live in one of the Muslim theocracies, not here in America.

Unconstitutional. So no, not possible. The civil provisions would involve things like contracts, debts, etc. It's legal for two or more competent people to enter into a contract as to how disputes will be settled, and these contracts, so long as they don't otherwise violate the law, are legal and enforceable. Of course, they require the free consent of any person entering into the contract.

Pretty much what they'll have to do. Of course, social pressure is another thing entirely. What might be O.K. in most places in America, might not be accepted in some rural counties in the Bible Belt. And sometimes, that can spill over into illegal oppression.

The lawsuit, filed August 4th in U. S. District Court for the Middle District in Alabama, was brought on behalf of the children of Sue and Wayne Willis of Pike County. Mr. and Mrs. Willis are Jewish and are raising their children in the Jewish faith.

The Willis children attend Pike County Elementary and Pike County High School. Over the last several years, the lawsuit says, their religious faith has been denigrated repeatedly by teachers, administrators and students. They have been denied the right to practice their faith while other students freely practice theirs. They have been denied the right to express their religious beliefs while repeatedly being forced to participate in overtly Christian assemblies and classroom activities.

The lawsuit further charges that the Willis children have also been the victims of religious bigotry and anti-Semitic hate crimes at the hands of other students. Faculty, adminstrators and school board members have done nothing to stop this persecution.

Mr. and Mrs. Willis have taken their concerns and complaints to all levels of school personnel and the school board during the last few years. Their efforts have been in vain. In response to a complaint from Mrs. Willis in April of this year, Superintendent John Key suggested that the continual harassment would end if the Willis family would convert to Christianity.

One teacher, in response to Mrs. Willis' plea, explained "If parents will not save souls, we have to."

Notice though, that when the parents sued, the county school system backed off and quit persecuting the kids. It's a pity they had to do that to get their rights back, but we still have a lot of bigotry to work out of our system.

BTW, the majority of Arabs in Dearborn (who comprise a bit more than 40% of the population there) are Lebanese Marionite Christians. There are also many Iraqi Assyrian Christians. So, it would be extremely odd if the city were to adopt Sharia law. That isn't going to stop tea party officials from claiming the city is enforcing Sharia law, of course.
