  • Focus on the Family

    Strengthening families through biblical principles.

Focus on the Family addresses the use of biblical principles in parenting and marriage to strengthen the family.

I was on a mission trip, and as we talked to this guy we found out that he was a big fan of Narnia so we used Aslan's sacrifice and Resurrection to help paint a picture of why Jesus died for our sins. Anyone who is thinking about writing Christian based sci-fi/fantasy should! Because who knows how it might glorify God!

Sci-fi and fantasy are my least favourite genres.

Ones like HP I've never seen or read but I think I'm right in saying JKR is a Christian? Catholic?

Anyway from a Christian POV I think we should treat it like anything else in the secular world, be it music or anything else entertaining.

There probably are exceptions that are very good and biblical ...

A lot of C S Lewis is allegorical.

Then, I'm not into C S Lewis particularly.

(Did you know that Joanna Rowling was influenced by C S Lewis in her Harry Potter stuff, BTW?)

lamplady:

I know what you mean.

There's a sense that we constantly need a reality check, and if we are into improbable fiction, the reality side can be a bit tenuous, I guess.

But then the parables are not necessarily intended to be historical, are they? but anyway the terms of the parables are intended to relate directly to reality...

i used to watch potter but i stopped , something about dumbledore a grown man professing his love for harry.

seems too micheal jacksonish to me.

Is it like a fatherly expression of love or a paedo expression of love?

The mighty Wiki seems to think that Dumblesdore is gay, but not that he hits on Harry.

in the books, i dont recall any type of love interest. i simply dont feel confortable with that idea. and i would honestly stop watching the movies even if they had it where they were two adults.

i cant in good conscience be happy about that type of sin and root for a gay relationship.
