A link to a thread in "Other Religions" you may find useful:
Yoga, Reflexology...Etc.
i read that as well and see the point, but if one takes that view then you should withdrawal your kids from a martial art classes as well. All martial arts(save a few, boxing, wrestling, savate) originate from yoga.
I still practice martial arts and avoid the mystiscm of it. Yes some martial arts have a spirit thing to it(KI.CHI and if you do tai chi throw chi kung in as well). Most modern martial arts founders were poeple who practiced some form pantheistic religion or taoism, shintoim,or buddism.
I think that as christians we should be aware of that and decide accordingly, I see no harm in yoga if you are just doing the exorcises. A friend of mine does it without the mysticsm and he learned it in india, and always tells me many of the yoga class taught at gyms are taught wrong.
BJJ(Brazilian jujitsu) has a lot of yoga to it. To have a good guard, one must be flexible and have core
strenght. And it has helped my back.
What about accupuncture and chiropractic medicine, the former has origins in the i ching(taoism) and the latter is very similiar to the former in the beliefs of the energy flow. I have been to a christian chiropractor and God used it to heal my back. I wouldn't be doing any type of bjj or weightlifting at all if he didnt. There's also scientific evidence to back up the effectiveness of those fields of mecidines.
I think its up to the doctor if they will allow the mystical side of it, and some do. My new chiropractor does and i turn that against him. One day he had a cold and I told him his chi was low, and I asked him if he believed that and he said yes, I then told him why i don't and when i see him again i give him my testimony of why ki doesn't redeem you. Pray for him.
