Should Christians wish harm on others? Should we seek revenge?

No, for even entertaining the thought is a sin. If we are discouraged from lustful thoughts on account of just entertaining them being almost as if we were taking part in the actual sin, I doubt much of any other would be deemed any different. No doubt we all get angry. No doubt we all get upset. Which is likely why we as are believers are discouraged from becoming angry too quickly. For anger is known to lead to sin. It is something we should pray about.

I agree, however anger is not a bad thing. The bad thing is if you act on your anger.Or let it build up and become hate or whatever.

Certainly. Even a skim through of the New Testament would reveal this answer.

Can you provide biblical evidence?

Ephesians 4:25Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
Eph 4:26 "In your anger do not sin" Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,
Eph 4:27 and do not give the devil a foothold.
Eph 4:28 He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.
Eph 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Eph 4:31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
Eph 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

I wonder why you would ask such a question? Do you have a personal example? I mean, it seems so obvious to me that the answer is "no". But if you are struggling with forgiving someone for something then I could see where this question came from perhaps.

Absolutely NOT! There was a man in my first church who said, "I don't get mad; I get even." That sounds like a real Christian attitude doesn't it? NOT!

I asked the question because I know some Christians who believe it is okay to seek revenge on people.

Me too. Glad that's cleared up!

Pay close attention to verse 4, Romans 12. the word wrath. Is not this ordained wrath ? God did not make everybody the same, and God knew that not everybody is going to take being punched in the mouth or stand by and not seek revenge. Not everybody is at a point in their walk with Christ, as to where they can over come that. And can't know body tell me that God did not orchestrate pay backs in the Bible, He did it over and over again. And why did Jesus tell someone to buy a sword in Luke 22:36 Luke 22:36
Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

And check out verse 4 below, I am just putting something out there for you all to think about. Work those minds people. :yes :-) :D :nag ;) :biglaugh

Romans 13 (King James Version)

Romans 13

1Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

2Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

3For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

"I asked the question because I know some Christians who believe it is okay to seek revenge on people"

Then what do you think? Do you think it is okay? I find it baffling that a Christian would honestly see this as Biblically okay. Of course, if a Christian were struggling with feelings of wanting revenge, I easily could understand that considering the struggle would be against their human desire vs. what they know God wants them to do. Do you think it might be a good idea to open a dialogue with these Christians and discuss what the Bible says about revenge?

You seem to forget I am the one who asked the question. ;) I have an opinion but I wanted to hear what others thought first. Plus, I may even learn a thing or two. Part of the reason why I post a lot of stuff like this is to get people to discuss these issues. I see many Christians who have the attitude to seek revenge on those who do them harm rather than pray for them. So rather than accuse people of doing this, I wanted to have a discussion on it. Some newer Christians may not be far enough in their walk with God to fully understand this. Iron sharpens iron. :-)

What do I think? I believe we should do good to those who hurt us. And I try to do that as much as possible because it truly shows good Christian character. Not only that, Jesus said for us to do good for those who harm us. :yes

Do you think Jesus meant that for every situation ? :confused

Well as far as I know, Jesus never gave any exceptions so I am assuming He meant it for every situation. Now if someone breaks into my house and kills my family, should I do good to those people? My flesh says no. I wouldn't take the law into my own hands. However, I believe we are doing good to those who harm us by simply praying them. Certainly, we don't have to be buddy buddy with everyone who causes us harm.
