Should controversial issues be in the general forum?

My very first poll! :bday:

I really liked coming to this forum more over the past couple of weeks because I didn't have to see several topics on homosexuality in the general section.
Now I see the break is over :-?
I was wondering what people thought about a section for 'controversial subjects' like homosexuality, adultry, divorce...etc.?
 
well, these are general ideas that effect people aren't they?

That is the point of forums of this nature........
 
I don't quite know why they wouldn't be. Care to elaborate on what you mean/feel a little further?
 
I guess 'general' can cover everything, but since there are always so many homosexuality topics coming up here I thought it should have a place of it's own.
I guess I thought more people got tired of seeing it beat to death all the time amd would like to see it in a place made more for debate.
People are still promoting it, and people who are weak in their faith are more likely to read the general section and be influenced.

I agree. I think any theological, political, etc issue should be talked about in it's own forum and leave the general forum for more lighthearted "general" topics. :angel:

Thats the word I was looking for..."lighthearted"
It seems like the general section should be more casual and 'lighthearted'. :smt045
 
I think you have a somewhat legitimate point about keeping things a little more lighthearted and not quite so deep (or flameful). For example, I think gay marriage topics can easily be put into the political forum. General homosexuality discussions - now that's not so easy.

I simply have to zoom in on the weak faith statement. If they have weak faith then that is something that they must take up with God. However, if they're going to be exposed to it in one forum then they'll be exposed to it in another. Just because it's not posted in one forum doesn't mean that they'll not come across it at some time or another.

I think as a Christian your faith will be tested and has to be. Such topics find out where you stand.

Yeah but i've heard parents say, " I would rather my kid smoke/drink in front of me instead of doing it behind my back."
I always cringe when I hear something like that. It would break my heart to see my child doing that sort of thing whether he did it behind my back or not.
You don't make room for the opportunity or the act, yet the personal responsibility will eventually present itself and they will have to make a choice.
You still want them to be built up in strength through (right) influence so that when the time comes they will be more likely to make the right choice.
Do you see my analogy?
A young christian will be exposed to the promotion of all sorts of sin eventually, but that still doesn't make it right for us to make it easier for that to happen.
 
You know, if a certain topic strikes you as contraversial, you can simply not click on it.

Boy Destiny, you make some good points. But you know, I think it's up to the Mod's to move topics here or there as they see fit. Perhaps the 'mood' of the thread could dictate where it's placed and not really the topic in some cases?

You know what I would like to see Destiny? I'd like to see General as a safe area to talk about stuff that's on our minds without having to really defend what we say, but rather have a discussion about the topic as to encourage growth and build one another up instead of always trying to build one up by the fall of another. Know what I mean?

I mean, if somebody want sto defend their point with pitch forks and swords, start a thread somewhere else on the board. Otherwise, maybe we could exercise some consideration (without having to change ones views) on the topics in the General section.

I dunno Destiny, just some thoughts.

How about thread called Controversial Subjects. Because I think destiny, if someone has something to say they are going to want to say it. And I think General Talk is the best and only place to put it. Unless there is a thread just for Controversial Subjects. And those subjects like the other heated one we have on here sometimes, about the Catholics will always come up. And people need to express themselves. Just my thoughhts.

For me Lewis, it has nothing to do with any catholic topics. I feel like the homosexual topics are disrespectful to God, plus they can confuse new impressionable believers because those who pervert the gospel in those threads are skilled at it, and are still promoting a false belief system through 'debate'
If people are satisfied here with things like they are, and they obviously must be...then I sure won't rock the boat anymore.
