In our state there is no laws about anyone the church hires including child care and Sunday school teachers.
Public schools systems and child care businesses do have to do background checks and finger printing.

not in florida, they have to do that,when I worked as a janitor I had to get fingerprinted just be able to clean the daycare and school. the same is the case for my church's preschool.

Felons are not restricted from being around kids, even violate felons are not.
Employment issues and laws is a different animal.
Pedophiles are restricted from being around kids at all, unless in strict supervised visitations set up by the courts. Different states handle these things differently and even judges.

I do know that in florida, a convicted sex offender can only be around kids if under court order(ie his) during visitation. I do know that in florida a pedophile/sex offender mustn't live near a school.

just because the court says they are guilty, doesn't mean they are, and the reverse can be the case. casey Anthony. is innocent. I wouldn't let her near jaci. any person that cold and did what she did to her baby,isnt worthy of being a friend to jaci or caretaker.

In Colorado, all school employees are treated the same, even school bus drivers and janitors.

Your church must have an actual preschool conducted outside of church service hours and probably collect a fee. Below is Florida law for churches normal service hours.
"(5) It is the further legislative intent that the freedom of religion of all citizens shall be inviolate. Nothing in ss. 402.301-402.319 shall give any governmental agency jurisdiction or authority to regulate, supervise, or in any way be involved in any Sunday School, Sabbath School, or religious services or any nursery service or other program conducted during religious or church services primarily for the convenience of those attending such services. "

The reason I looked at this was because I would hate to see any state interfering in regular church functions. The government does not have that right.
