Should TV preachers be trusted?

Should TV preachers be trusted? Should we fork over our grocery money to them? Will God bless us 30 fold if we senr them some money to sow a seed? What is Biblical when it comes down to it?

I was listening to an mp3 by David Hocking on what is wrong with this. It is not Biblical. There is no way they can promise you any blessing, except for maybe feeling good for giving...which I wouldn't do.
This goes with...I think it was Oral Roberts and...if I don't get a million bucks by? then I'm going to die.
There is a post on prosperity preaching somewhere. This is a bunch of bunk.
Just go to your local church and give. Also, watch out for the healing ministries...with the holy water...but send a donation.
Very sad, that they should even get to preach.
That ain't where you're going to get your ear healed Dave.

I think they should not be trusted as they seem to be there to make money and to inculcate people to their version of who our Lord is. The Lord is not like McDonalds, fast food faith on tap: we are not part of an assembly line to be saved on demand. I doubt if those so called evangelist have the ability to save themselves let alone others. They are not preaching what my God and Lord Jesus tell me simply because I think they are false. You might be wise to keep in mind that some people elevate others so that they themselves will be elevated: this may be the case here.

I agree with you. I am talking about the one's that say things like God is going to multiply your givings ten fold back to you, etc.
There are definitely some good television preachers...David Jeremiah. I can't think of any more right now...but you are right they are not all ...in the waste basket.
I think it's Benny Hinn that keeps sending my friend letters to make donations for holy water.
There are some I definitely wouldn't watch.

It is interesting that we consider the question in terms of trust with our money. Would not the real question be about trusting a stranger concerning doctrine? I hate the doctrine of "seed faith giving" because it is a detestable thing to twist and distort the truth for gain. Read the whole book of Malachi and ask yourself who God was speaking to.

The burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.

A son honoureth [his] father, and a servant his master: if then I [be] a father, where [is] mine honour? and if I [be] a master, where [is] my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name.

And ye say, "Wherein have we despised thy name?"

Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD [is] contemptible.

And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, [is it] not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, [is it] not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.

And now, I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.

Who [is there] even among you that would shut the doors [for nought]? neither do ye kindle [fire] on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name [shall be] great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense [shall be] offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name [shall be] great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.

But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD [is] polluted; and the fruit thereof, [even] his meat, [is] contemptible.

Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness [is it]! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought [that which was] torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.

But cursed [be] the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I [am] a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name [is] dreadful among the heathen.

I would defy any preacher who twists the word of God, the HOLY Word to show that He was speaking to the poor and telling them to turn unto Him that He might bless them. He was speaking to Israel and by extension speaking to those modern day preachers (so called) who worship at the altar of MAMMON. They defile His holy altar with their abominations. Did I say that I hate that? Maybe that was an understatement. Christians need to take their blinders off. Need to let their voice be heard in our land so that the Name of the Lord can no longer be profaned amongst the unsaved.

I am that heathen who by the Grace of our Lord and God of all heaven and all earth lift my voice. We are the benefactors of His mercy and now, are we to try to repay such divine kindness, such love with filthy lucre? Yes, I believe in supporting the church (don't get me wrong here). The hatred that is in me is only directed toward those who pollute the altar of the Lord by twisting His words; out of one side of their lying mouths they declare themselves "His storehouse" and out of another they suggest that it is unto the poor that He is speaking.

I've actually heard one preacher say, "It is a generational curse that has fallen on entire families for multiple generations. If you are on Food Stamps you MUST tithe 10% of your Food Stamps too so that God will bless you."

If it's holy water, it is most likely Peter Popoff and his "miracle spring water". :help

Hey, Charles Stanley is good too. :yes

Yes, I have listened to him also. These days I usually just download videos of David Hocking, Chuck Missler, David Jeremiah...and yes, I have seen Charles Stanley on youtube also.
I tend to like Hocking best.
I guess it would be wrong to make blanket statements about most of the TV preaching being shyster quality. I can usually tell within a few minutes, what they are about anyway.
If I don't like it...then...I ...just...turn the channel. :) Isn't the remote control a wonderful instrument :lol

I agree too. I know a few of them have given TV evangelism a bad name, but I know there are good, Bible-teaching, God-fearing, people-serving TV preachers out there. Charles Stanley is my favorite. :yes
