Is it really a sin to sin under duress?
Take for instance, you were made to do a particular negative thing at gunpoint or...you were asked to deny HIM or you pretended never to have been a Christian just to escape the punishment of terrorist groups who are ripping Christians apart.

You remember Peter, right? He denied Christ.

God knows the situation.God knows the whole picture. He has mercy and grace for us.

In the Bible didn't Rahab lie to protect the Israelite spies? Joshua 2:5

any sin is a sin, and the penalty for any sin is death. so, yes, it is really a sin.

God forgives sin if we repent but sin is sin, period. And deny Him, that is the only sin that will send you straight to the abyss, that is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

That is very true.
I have heard of people buried alive just because they refused to renounce Christ. There are some who may not have the courage to do the same.

some? according to Yeshua, most.(multitudes) don't endure to the end, not even against their family or church or neighborhood opinion! (i.e. not even close to the shedding blood or death)
even though they may lose their soul >>
Matthew 10:32The Message (MSG)
32-33 “Stand up for me against world opinion and I’ll stand up for you before my Father in heaven. If you turn tail and run, do you think I’ll cover for you?

God will give us the grace and boldness to risk our lives for Him and for our good....tho ot may not always be through torture or inflicting of physical pain.

A friend told me he is very willing to die for Christ - just that he is so afraid of physical pain/torture.

I am sure glad that Jesus was not afraid of physical pain/torture when dieing for us.Where would we be?

1 Peter 4 New Living Translation (NLT)
Living for God
4 So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin. 2 You won’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God. 3 You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols.

And that does not change anything. You seem to be seeking a consensuses and I know you can get one but that will just encourage others to go to Hell also.

keep it simple. what does Yeshua say in Scripture ?
Matthew 10:32-33Expanded Bible (EXB)
32 “All those who ·stand before others and say they believe in me [L confess/acknowledge me before people], I will ·say before my Father in heaven that they belong to me [L confess/acknowledge them before my Father in heaven]. 33 But all who ·stand before others and say they do not believe in me [L deny/disown me before people] I will ·say before my Father in heaven that they do not belong to me [L also deny/disown them before my Father in heaven].

Consensus? Not really.
Just asking if saying no under duress is a sin. :crying

why would under duress change anything? like Yeshua, true followers of Yeshua are always 'under duress' on this earth, in the midst of the blind, wicked, pernicious society we live in ...

where did the idea come from that there might somehow be an excuse for any sin ?

I think if I were that Journalist that got his head cut off I would be under duress.

I do agree with us that we as Christians are under duress and pressure nd attacks of whatever nature...
