Hey brother, it sounds as if you may have came into contact with a Northern Ringneck snake, and there are many variations of color; the first & second one below comes close to what you describe. The third picture is from Queensland of a snake named the Red-naped snake and they could vary in color also.

Most often have seen garter snakes in my yard. Saw a copperhead in front of the van once after days of heavy rain.

I am a real badbutt in my dreams, though--have had quite a few about fighting snakes.

I don't like snakes. We live in the desert southwest and there are plenty of them. We kill the poisonous ones and let the non-poisonous ones live. We have killed eight rattle snakes this summer. One of them bit one of our dogs. The non-poisonous ones are actually great rodent control and we have plenty of those also.

She has a real nice AR15. Someone posted pics of it awhile back.

It doesn't surprise me that 1 in 3 homes has a snake there. They're all over it seems. II prolly have one, no mice, old house. I'm cool with that I guess,as long as he's headed the other way if I see him.lol.

I hate snakes...and if I happen to see or meet a talking snake its just going to have to die.

I bought a 6" boa constrictor years ago before I became a believer. It grew to over 3' by the time I was forced to give it away. It became too difficult and expensive to find guinea pigs to feed it. The guy I gave it to had a parrot. He heard it squawking one night and found it in the snake's mouth!

I've came to the conclusion my buddy Dan in his fear might have seen the following creature and thought it to be a snake. He hasn't replied to pictures I posted and is still shaking from his experience. Notice the black head. :)

One of my neighbors used to let a large snake loose in his house while he was at work, as his security system.
I let my snake loose in the house as well. I was raising mice to feed it, but they all got out of their cage. So I let the snake out and he effectively exterminated all six of them.

I was thinking about this statistic before I went to bed last night. I just hope our house isn't the one in three. We might have snakes living under the house. My husband killed a snake the was in our front yard a couple of weeks ago. Sure hope it's mate isn't inside. I'm sure my dogs would find it if it were.

Sounds good to me.

Hawai'i has no native snakes. But, occasionally one is found that has been brought in by cargo ships, or pet boas released. I hope the sanke population there can be controlled. The brown tree snake has devastated the bird population on Guam (which also had no native snake populations) so I hope that can be prevented.
