My heat is at 62 right now. When I first moved to WI I was asked what do the Cub scouts do when the winter survival camping trip has a forecast high temperature of 20 below?
Answer: postpone the trip until it gets cold. You can't learn winter survival skills when it's warm.

We have 4 seasons here, too: almost winter, winter, still winter, and construction.

Right now it's winter. Something like 13 for tonight's low. Balmy.

I lived in the UP for 7 years and we used to say we had 2 seasons, winters here and winters coming... :lol
 
The UP has had weird winter weather cycles for many years now. The jet stream is so much further south that they're often the same temperature as here, 400 miles to the South. I watch this carefully, as my favorite ski hill is on the northern tip of the Keweenaw peninsula. Lake Superior is frozen over enough that our "snowmaker" has been turned off, yet we have had many thaw events messing up conditions.

The sooner Superior freezes over the better if you don't like shoveling/blowing snow. I had a 10 HP Ariens that I used to blow my snow across the street into the neighbors driveway then blew it over their garage into the back yard. For my troubles he would give me about 10lbs of venison each month thru throughout the year. Don't ask how he got fresh venison in the dead of summer. :biggrin2

The least amount of snow we got was about 80 inches and the most was about 260, average was 140...
 
Marquette has a nice ski hill too; entirely different conditions and terrain though. Usually the snowfall increases as you go up the Keweenaw, with the most at the tip because it's constant lake effect from all sides.

They averaged about 100" more of snow than we did and it seemed the fall color change was also more dramatic...
 
At least its not snow. A bit of rain fell on me when I wheeled the city cart to the back yard, but it was easy to push. Its very hard to move it through deep snow.

Sounds about right, lol. As big as the drinking culture is in the area, the school that brought me to the Midwest (IU) is typically the bigger party school - as ranked by whoever does that.

I heard the joke about the "Yooper louge," which starts with a full cooler of beer (for ballast) in the middle of a 2-seater kayak, poised at the top of the ski hill. Preferably one with a rudder at the back, to avoid hitting trees. Recently I saw YouTube videos of people actually doing that in a single person kayak :mouthdrop

Weather here is a bit closer to normal: rain here, snow 400 miles north. Will go ski for a few days. Forecast calls for a high of 51 tomorrow (flooding) almost immediately followed by 18 degrees.

Supposed to be 72 here tomorrow, normal for this time of year is 40...
 
I just heard thunder out there a little bit ago. The last couple of days it really has been warming up. Yesterday it was in the upper forties and today it was somewhere in the sixties. However, it's supposed to start raining tonight and tomorrow and I think I just heard a raindrop through the heater now lol.



 
Very strange! Normally we are still in winter here, temps staying below freezing with the ground snow covered. Instead, we've consistently had highs well above freezing. The lakes are still covered in ice but all the ice fishing shanties were cleared off over a week ago, and the snow is gone.

400 miles north of here snowfall is usually measured in FEET this time of year, but nothing. The ground is still covered in snow there and the shanties are still on the ice, but the same weather pattern has been prevailing there. This next Nationwide storm is only expected to give 2-4" to them, us, and all points between. Better than being without power though:pray

Yeah, a lot of people in my state are still without power. It's still been very cold outside, but the last couple of days it's been very sunny out at least.
 
Well it's still been cold out there but I think most of the snow we had has vanished and we've had a lot of sun lately. The only problem is that I have moved from sinus season to allergy season and I have this aggravating cough. Especially at night. :sick
 
The weather is: you guys are getting all my snow :angry:angry3

Give it back! You can't do anything with it, and it won't even stay around for you. The trend for many winters has been for my snow to go to the NE, where at least they have mountains that can take advantage of it. This latest pattern has pushed all the good storms too far south.
