So my brothers leaving for college today.

So, I have two brothers. The eldest is leaving today to go to college. I have to say, I'm scared for him. There's a few reasons, but mainly I'm scared that college is just going to be a big slap on the face for him, or maybe he can't take it, I dunno. So many things could go wrong. I'm also so scared, because this will lock him into going to the army. This means, right after college, he could have to go out on active duty, and he could die. I'm absolutely scared for that. I know he won't actually be in the army for another 4 years... But that's still pretty scary.

Anybody have a kid/sibling go to college, or the army, or both? Any words of comfort?

P.s. sorry if this is the wrong section.

Does your brother have physical or emotional handicaps that would cause you to have so little confidence in his ability to move on in life?

Believe me, there are much more things to worry about in life than this. Your brother will be fine, you just have to have faith that God will guide him and keep him safe. If you have faith, then you have no fear. You have comfort. He is going off on his own journey, and his own path. Clearly, a path that God wants him to walk.

He will make it, he has to. College is a direct route to a career path.

No. It's just the way he's been acting. Since he turned 18, he kinda acts like he's boss man, because he's an adult now. He's become, well pretty disrespectful to everyone, Cept anyone in ROTC. I'm just worried he's going to back talk a professor or something like he does with our parents, he acts kinda like a kid now. Like "I don't have to do what you say, I'm 18!"

Ahhh....

Well, getting out into the real world will most likely take care of that. Sounds like some smack downs would do him some good. This is all very normal.

I believe that's fairly common among eighteen year olds, especially before they go off to college. It's no excuse for being rude, but I do think it's fairly common and that he will grow out of it quickly. Also, I've been in a couple classes with some disrespectful students, and consequences don't tend to be too severe. Certainly nothing worth worrying about.
