Hi
Thought I'd give some suggestions.
Selah
Twila Paris
Michael Card
I also like the good ole time gospel music.
:-D

Curtis and Dora, we are all in agreement. I do listen to the lyrics and shake my head at some of the doctrinally incorrect themes. True, there are passages where it speaks of God's love and affection for us as a friend, but the central doctrine is not friendship; it's children by adoption.

Dora, overly-repetitious lyrics make me go  Perfect example that ties in with Curtis' concerns are these lyrics:

I am a friend of God (I am a friend of God)
I am a friend of God (I am a friend of God)
I am a friend of God (I am a friend of God)
I am a friend of God, He calls me friend.
I am a friend of God (I am a friend of God)
I am a friend of God (I am a friend of God)
I am a friend of God (I am a friend of God)
I am a friend of God, He calls me friend.
He calls me friend
He calls me friend.

Now these are lyrics! :-D

Rebecca St. James \ Go And Sin No More

I've sinned, come on my knees, for I'm not worthy of Your love
How could You die for me, such grace can only come from God

Oh Lord, You search and You know me, You see me inside out
God, You alone can forgive me, erase my fear and my doubt
Father, You pick me up, I feel like a child in Your arms
I don't deserve this love, but I hear Your voice, Lord Jesus

CHORUS:
Go and sin no more
He said "I will not condemn you,
I'll forgive and I'll forget it all
Go and sin no more
My child, let me remind you it
is I who'll lead and guide you as you go"

You are my purpose - You are the reason that I live
I want to be like You - Help me to love and to forgive

God, let me not be distracted, Lord, help me focus on You
Keep sin from ruling my life, Lord - make me holy and pure
Father, You pick me up - I feel like a child in Your arms
I don't deserve this love but, I hear Your voice Lord, Jesus

CHORUS

(bridge)
Wipe, wipe away
Take, take away
Break, break away
Fill my life, make it right
Father, help me, Father, help me go

CHORUS:

He said "I will not condemn you, no
Go and sin no more
My child let me remind you it is I
who'll lead and guide you as you GO!"

I've sinned, come on my knees, how could You die for me
You search my heart - know my thoughts
See me inside out and all throughout me
You alone can forgive me
You always pick me up - like a child in Your arms
I could stay with Your forever here

As a matter of fact, just about everything on those first two albums are right on. 8-)

I believe this is from Phillips Craig and Dean, right? They are modalists so you can't really rely on them for good doctrine anyway.

But I agree. It is all about the substance. It is all about the truth being put forth.

Much of the "Christian" music today is fluff without any doctrine and merely sold to entertain American Christians. Kinda like candy made in the shape of a cross.

Yes, it's them and actually, I heard they were Oneness, which is different than Modalist.

Well as long as most of it stays out of the Sanctuaries, I don't have a problem. Would you rather your children listen to that or a lot of the secular junk that passes as "music"?

MTV's VMAs anyone?

I find this very disturbing, that our children drool over people like this and
nobody's the wiser. In a Christian family the parents must become aware

Led Zeppelin is Satanic to the core. In the song "Houses of the Holy," Robert Plant (lead singer) speaks of Satan's daughter and making her garden grow (a sexual reference). The album cover displays naked women crawling towards the top of the temple. It's sickening in the name of decency. Anyone who denies the occult inspiration of Led Zeppelin's music is woefully deceived.

Led Zeppelin also introduced personal occult symbols on one of their albums. Guitarist Jimmy Page of Zeppelin is a devout follower of Satanist, Aleister Crowley, who proclaimed himself as "The Beast 666." Aleister Crowley was also a 33rd and 97th Degree Freemason and is recognized as the master Satanist of the 20th century. In 1971, guitarist Jimmy Page bought Crowley’s Boleskine House on the shore of Loch Ness where Crowley practiced his Hellish, Satanic sex-magick rituals, including human sacrifices. Guitarist Jimmy Page actually performed Crowley magical rituals during their concerts. Their song "Stairway to Heaven" carries the reference "May Queen," which is purported to be the name of a hideous poem by Crowley. In fact, Zed Zeppelin's songs are saturated with Aleister Crowley's Satanic doctrines...

The worship of Lucifer, in the form of Pan, was a theme through all of Aleister Crowley’s

Tell me Mr orburn have you had much luck witnessing to people with the Hell fire and brimstone approach? I don't know about where your from, but around here there's no way to lose someone faster then to tell them they are to Hell.

Now back on subject here's the lyrics to one of my favorites.

Artist: Todd Agnew
Album: Reflection Of Something
Song: My Jesus

Which Jesus do you follow?
Which Jesus do you serve?
If Ephesians says to imitate Christ
Then why do you look so much like the world?

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the arrogant
So which one do you want to be?

Blessed are the poor in spirit
Or do we pray to be blessed with the wealth of this land
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness
Or do we ache for another taste of this world of shifting sand

Cause my Jesus bled and died for my sins
He spent His time with thieves and sluts and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the rich
So which one do you want to be?

Who is this that you follow
This picture of the American dream
If Jesus was here would you walk right by on the other side or fall down and worship at His holy feet

Pretty blue eyes and curly brown hair and a clear complexion
Is how you see Him as He dies for Your sins
But the Word says He was battered and scarred
Or did you miss that part
Sometimes I doubt we'd recognize Him

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and the least of these
He loved the poor and accosted the comfortable
So which one do you want to be?

Cause my Jesus would never be accepted in my church
The blood and dirt on His feet would stain the carpet
But He reaches for the hurting and despised the proud
I think He'd prefer Beale St. to the stained glass crowd
And I know that He can hear me if I cry out loud

I want to be like my Jesus!
I want to be like my Jesus!

Not a posterchild for American prosperity, but like my Jesus
You see I'm tired of living for success and popularity
I want to be like my Jesus but I'm not sure what that means to be like You Jesus
Cause You said to live like You, love like You but then You died for me
Can I be like You Jesus?
I want to be like my Jesus

This video that Biblereader shared with us on a different thread is a great example of what type of worship is beautiful, worshipful and yet modern as well. It's not entertainment, seemingly there just to let the church be 'hip'. But it's really all about God. Now this I can imagine being performed on a stage before the Throne and God being pleased with it. Talk about lifting holy hands!

Then they are offended for the sake of the gospel and that is not his problem. We need to proclaim it rightly and hell is part of that proclamation.

God is sovereign, majestic, holy, and just. He offers mercy to those who will repent and believe. If they choose not to, they will suffer the wrath that Jesus so mercifully took for them.

But we cannot expect them to understand or even truly want the Saviour until they know they are a sinner on their way to death. We need to warn people of the ploys of satan and the way he has gotten his claws into the media and every other venue available and all in the hopes of deceiving and leading to hell one more soul. Misery loves company.

So, T or B, continue to preach the truth. Let people know there is a hell to pay, but that God in His rich mercy has offered a way out. We don't aquire that mercy by following someone through some heartless prayer or by just believing in God. We get it by recognizing our own filth and how beautiful and perfect He is and then casting ourselves at His feet in repentance and faith. We do not accept Him. We repent and beg of His acceptance. Luckily, He has guaranteed us that any who will, will be accepted by Him.

Why not take this to the debate forum, Jesus has suffered enough.

I just deleted a bunch of very ...shall I just say 'unfortunate'...posts. Folks, behave. If anyone has a private beef, that's what PM is for.

Back to the topic, which is actually getting further and further off topic. The topic I believe is recommended songs. And, we've branched a bit into what songs bring glory to God in a worship setting, what songs are great to sing just cause, and what songs should be avoided, simply because the truth isn't in them.

Anything by Hillsong. I don't know if someone already posted about how amazing their praise songs are but their CD "Look to you"... the entire thing is a masterpiece. A MASTERPIECE I TELL YOU!!
