Son of God Movie Review

The Passion was one of the last movies i watched in it they showed Jesus being beaten like a piece of meat but that was only the beginning of the real beating they gave him.. they wouldn't dare show that..

Isaiah 52:14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:

15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.

i heard it said that you couldn't recognize his gender he was just a bloody mass of flesh.. that's what really lies in the heart of man total depravity..

Oh Deb. Why can't we as representatives of such a loving, sacrificing, and gracious God, love each other that way. A good example of what I'm talking about is here in this Forum. Kathi and I have been speaking of this in private, and I don't think she would mind if I spoke about how disappointed we are in some of the folk who think that they are the ultimate authority on how God does things and that they only have the correct understanding of the Scriptures. I certainly don't!! What I post is my opinion based on my studies.

Lets look at Isaiah 55:8 & 9 which was our study this morning. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts"....Deb. why on earth would any of us in this Forum think that we are THE authority after reading this Scripture. In my opinion, it's nothing but PRIDE!! And it stinks!

I for one am making a public apology in that If I have come across as the only one with the Truth, I beg for your forgiveness! If I have come across as condescending, I am sorry! Please forgive me? Kathi, really opened up my eyes to a sin that is happening a lot with our posts, we are too proud of our opinions and display them as facts. Shame on us! We need to take stalk in how we present our beliefs. Humility is the key to our ideas. THANK YOU KATHI.

From now on, I promise to be cautious in how I answer my Brothers and Sisters. I want your respect as someone just like you who want's to learn more from people who have the love of our Master, Jesus Christ.

We have to threads on this movie The Son of God they have now been merged thanks
:lol I was losing my mind because I was thinking that weren't there 2 of these threads I replied now replies are on the same!

Tell me, was this son of God movie the same/similar to the Bible miniseries. Was it just a shortened version of it or something. Because when I saw some of the preview of son of God on TV it seemed to be showing clips from the bible miniseries

I have not seen it and I won't be going to a theater to see it. Would have to drive 130 miles one way at least and who knows when it will even be there.
I'm rather leary of it. I wasn't overly impressed with their mini series.
When I looked up where Roma is attending classes and who presided over her wedding, well I'm just leary.
I will go look at your review now......

Deborah 13, what were your concerns re the show/producers. I watched the bible mini series - I know some people I know we're Leary and didn't watch. I thought was ok - pretty violent though. I was probably most excited because here was a Christian movie that was very big/ popular. Was interested to see that non-Christians would be so exposed to it

Yes, what about Noah, wonder if that one will be worthwhile?
I haven't seen it, but from what I hear it doesn't attempt to be true to the Biblical account.
I'll probably still see it sooner or later, though, whether it's in the movie theater or on a rented DVD.

Yes, I'm a little curious to see how Hollywood "rewrites" the Noah story.

I haven't seen the movie. I thought the mini was OK but I was expecting them to be very scriptural because they are Christians not just film makers trying to make a Christian series.
But then I'm not sure they are Christians so I shouldn't expect so much....

My dad used to point out how scripturally innaccurate the cartoon Bible stories I used to watch were. And most of them were made by Christians. (Obviously HannaBarbara's "Greatest Stories from the Bible" wasn't...at least I don't think so.)

But then, 'yknow, some of the best famous movies, loved by Christians, about the Bible (or at least related to it?) weren't entirely scripturally accurate either, unless I'm mistaken. The Robe, the 10 Commandments, Ben Hur (?)

My Wife and I just saw the movie, "Son of God" We both thought that it was very well done! The Actor who played Jesus was excellent. Some of the Scripture that was quoted was not word for word, but very close. No one religion was presented so every Christian should be pleased. The scenes that played was very good and the way it should be.

The scenery was excellent and authentic. The Actress who played Mary, the Mother of Jesus did a superb job. All in all, I would recommend this movie. IMO, it was better than "The Passion". You definitely want to bring tissues especially near the end where Jesus goes on trial. All the Actors and Actresses did a great job with expressions and tone of voice. It was very real, and I compliment Roma Downing (sp) for her part in directing, and her Husband.

I'll be glad to hear other opinions as you see this movie.

+1 Chopper!

Editorial Reviews
Relive the events from Jesus Christ's life that changed the course of history as seen through the eyes of His most loyal apostle. This one-man stage show chronicles the imprisonment of John, the last living disciple of Jesus' twelve. Locked away in a cave-prison on the isle of Patmos, John remains full of humor and resolute in his faith in Jesus and God, the Father. Discover the story of Jesus in a completely new way from Emmy award-winning director Dan Curtis (War and Remembrance) and watch Dean Jones give a startling personal account of John's story.

A wonderful movie...

That's what I was wondering? The previews show scenes from the Bible series that aired in the history channel. However the series would be to long for the theatre. I also liked the Bible series on the History channel.

I generally support these movies. I say "generally" because there have been some real duds. "Jesus Christ Super Star" (The musical) and "The last Temptation of Christ" are two that come to mind as being absolutely horrible, and in my opinion, work to mock Christ and Christianity more than anything.

Another movie that came out a few years back, was called simply "Jesus". In that movie, stories of Jesus found in the Apocrypha where used. Like the time when Jesus brought a bird back to life when he was about four or five years old. Also in that movie, Mary had to keep Jesus in line. Jesus did not seem to know what his purpose was, but thankfully Mary was there to fill him in and lead him to the cross. .......Can anyone guess who put their seal of approval on that movie? LOL.

I think as long as the movies follow scripture on the bases of meaning and points they should be fine. I love this wave of faith based movies we are seeing these days, and I do agree they help to spur conversation. Particularly with the young.
