Sony Hacked - On Line PS3 Shut Down

If I had a goat, this would get it!

Sony says "Anonymous" set stage for data theft - Yahoo! News

Sony was hacked, and personal information from an unknown number of customers was compromised. This has gone on for some time, but it just happened again the other day. Sony can't seem to stop it! So, they shut down the system, and you can't go on line. My 15-year-old son does his on-line gaming. That's stopped. But, I'm personally impacted, because now we can't watch Netflix on-line with the PS3 in our living room. What a drag! :nono2

Sony's going to have to pay big for leaving its customers exposed and for this lapse of service.

Failing to see why compensation needs to be given for a free service being shut down. I get the data being stolen, but the lapse in service I don't get.

Now if you had the vastly superior Xbox 360, than I'd expect some compensation, since you pay like 60$ a year for online membership. Microsoft is pretty good about that though, whenever they have to shut down the xbox live thing (which has happened like twice in my six years of membership) I get reimbursed. Last November it was down for two days and I think I got a free week. Plus they screwed up on my billing and charged me for two years instead of the one, and then they decided to give me my money back and let me have the second year free of charge anyways.

But that stinks. Especially the stolen info. I hope your stuff is secure. Be sure to pray for your personal information to stay away from those hackers.

Stupid hackers... If I were to believe in a multi-tiered hell I'd suggest that there is a special place in hell just for hackers...

Ian, I didn't mean that we needed to be compensated with money, and perhaps that was the wrong word to use. What I meant to say is that Sony needs to show some good will to owners of PS3's because of this gaff. They've started to do this, but if they want to have a satisfied customer base, once confidence is restored in their security, they are going to have to do what needs to be done - whatever that is.

Perhaps that means free downloads or some sort of "Sony Money" to submit for products. But, for an unknown time, PS3 owners are able to go on line to game. And for people like my wife and I, we aren't able to access Netflix on line to watch movies. This takes away some of the value of having a Netflix subscription. It's not Netflix's fault. Sony is impacting Netflix's business to that extent.

Personally, I'm not into gaming like my son. The only thing I use it for is for is the Blu Ray and Netflix, so if you say the XBox is better... okay. :salute

We've very recently had our credit card replaced, rendering the old one useless, so I'm feeling very safe. :yes
