Soulmates

Then who took care of the woman?
The husband did of course...or her extended family.

You're likely thinking in the westernized mindset of how families are today and not of the caste based society and nuclear family situation that used to be the norm.

Extended family lived "under one roof"... Including in-laws and uncles and cousins all surrounding one patriarch. The village was usually two or three families. To be kicked out of a family(apostatized) was serious business.
And this sort of family life went on for generations. Thousands of years before this American lifestyle of every family having a separate home came into being.

Joseph spent so much time on the road as a construction worker...he likely had no family left. He came from a poor family with no housing and no land. He likely earned every penny of the bride price for Mary himself. No parents to even negotiate for him.

But the Apostles were better off. Their families supported them while on ministry with Jesus.

This almost bring tears to my eyes, in fact...I joined because of this thread. I had a best friend I knew since I was 6...and I feel she was my soulmate.. Through out the years we'd move and get seperated, but in odd ways we would always get back in touch. Like my mom would see her mom in class( she had no idea her mom went to her school and this was months after they'd move) then when I list her number avain, my mom drove to her apartment...we had no idea which door was here's but somehow I manage to knock on the right one. Also I met 3 wonderful friends online, and They're just amazing... I feel for myself.. My soul mates will be in platonic form...as I don't think I'm suitable for a romantic relationship. But yeah if you're meant to meet someone on earth, you will through internet or otherwise... Gosh, I still feel like crying... :,) this post touched me.

Hi Sailing Soul,
First I'd like to welcome you to this forum. We're a nice bunch here and I believe you'll enjoy your stay. In a short while you'll get to know us all individually - we have a little bit of everything here.

I'd venture to say that you are one of the few who understands what a soul mate really is. Most people believe it is the love of their life, or their life's partner (like a husband) or who knows what else.

As you said, a soul mate does not have to be a romantic encounter - although it could be.
It does not have to be a spouse - although it could be.
It does not have to be the love of your life - although it could be.

It's something totally different. Two souls who understand each other and have a need for each other and feel more complete with each other. Any other relationship added to this would be extra.

Soul mates love each other - maybe it's an agape love, maybe it's a philia love, it could be an eros love - difficult to describe. in any case, there is love involved; each for the other. Soul mates usually get along better than others; than a married couple for instance. But there could be reasons why they have a particular problem which would be due to the personalities of the two persons but this would not detract from the soul mate relationship.

Your post was beautiful.
I hope you're happy here.

Aww thank you, and I totally agree...I think so many people want " their other half " to come in the form of a romantic partner that they forget they have a best friend that like a twin lol, so yeah I definitely think a soul mate can be romantic or platonic... I honestly think it depends on what God thinks you need. If he sees your a good lover as a spouse he'll bless you with one..or if you're like me, better off with platonic relationships he'll bless you with friends some how some way.. ( these are my own thoughts so I'm just giving my opinion)

But thanks for the welcome, I'm sure ill love it here :)

Excellent a very well said and wise counsel.
God gives us what we need, he knows we need and that is what he wants to give and Not what we want when it's outside of that.

I'm sure ill love it here :)

I'm sure you will. There are a lot of wonderful beautiful people on this site.

And may I add its great to have you with us.

I'm new too and was attracted by this thread and really enjoyed all the thoughtful responses.
I think if you really believe in soulmates God will show you them. I met one on a bus! It was one of those awkward moments as we sat opposite one another and I couldn't help but feel I needed to look him in the eye like something from a romantic comedy. I could feel he was encroaching on my aura and it felt warm and innocent. Then I had to get off and as I walked on tip toes to catch a last glance he came to the back of the bus as it set off to wave at me with glee!
Cue James blunt...
God is a tease sometimes but He knows what Hes doing so I just go with it these days!
Now I have a twin flame and they are the ones you would really like to clock over the head with a frying pan
Cue the shining

Little White Dove disappeared the very next day, never to be heard from again.
Sailing_soul disappeared 2 days later, never to be heard from again.
Why do these things happen?
For some it might be hard to catch on with a soulmate in only one or two days.
Others connect immediately.
It could be a spouse or it could be a friend, but a soulmate holds a special spot in your life.
God gives us that.

I don't know what it is about this picture.
I could just stare at it forever.

Wondering wonders what others see in it.

Anyone care to tell?
Who are they?
How do they feel?

This is what I see.:

Two persons who like and love each other.
They're not afraid to express this feeling.
It's a pure and joyful feeling.
They support each other.
They help each other.
They have no shoes.
They feel the earth under their feet.
They'll walk together as they look out at all the days to come.

Wow, this has to be true. It just rings loudly of the truth. Thought provoking too. What if...the extreme truth is that everyone could/should be our soulmates? Even non-romantic relationships too, for if we walk in total love to our Brothers and Sisters (and neighbors...everyone) as scripture says that we should...and they're walking in the same love, then the connection would have to be there. Actually even literally, spiritually. To be one spirit with another. Not just God, but everyone. What a nice world that would be. There'd be no welfare system, not even a court system probably. (Because the church would handle it).

The same way that Jesus walks, with love for all, especially our enemies...is how we are instructed to walk. Be like Jesus! Ok. Then everyone is a soulmate, right?

No, I don't have the feeling of being soulmates with non-believers.

Yeah Edward.
I agree that it would be nice. But it wouldn't work.
Know why?
Man's sin nature.
It ruins everything!

Plus, you can't "will" someone to be a soulmate.
They either are or they aren't.
Like love.

Does a good spouse also have to be a soul mate?
