Bible Study Spirit of antichrist

Matthew 7:13-14
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Matthew 19:23-26
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Before we move into the topic of this discussion I must pause to give you caution first. Through your years of study you have built up a wealth of knowledge according to the doctrines and traditions of men, and you carry that wealth with you where ever you go. And in that wealth you think you have standing, but you don’t realize that wealth that you carry filters you own perceptions. But if you are to proceed down that long narrow tunnel and pass through the eye of the needle, because straight is the gate and narrow is the way that leadeth to life. The kingdom of heaven awaits you, but before you can go any further, then you will have to leave the wealth of knowledge that you posses according to the traditions and doctrines of men behind. The tunnel is too narrow to carry those doctrines with you. If you find that you are unable to put down the doctrines and traditions of men, then you shall enter in by the broad way, but before you enter in through the broad way, know that you shall be purged by fire; a lake of fire.

Okay, for those who are willing to leave behind the doctrines and traditions of men, lets looks closely and intently on what the scripture defines as being antichrist.

1 John 4:1-3
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God. This is that spirit of antichrist. So by definition of the scripture, any one that denies Jesus has come into their flesh is the spirit of antichrist. Now before you reach back to grab for that loin cloth of the doctrines of men to cover your nakedness, by claiming that this is only referring to His virgin birth, you should continue on so that that you might understand that in the context of this passage, John is referring the the Spirit of Christ who has come to dwell in our flesh. If you deny that the Spirit of Christ has come to dwell in your flesh then you are not of God, and you are of the spirit of antichrist.

1 John 4:4-6
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

If you are still having difficulty in seeing what is plainly written before you, then before you go any further, I bid you to put off your shoes from your feet. Every spirit that does not confess that the Spirit of Jesus Christ is come into their flesh is of the spirit of antichrist, because greater is HE THAT IS IN YOU, than he that is in the world.

And who is it who was promised to come again that He should dwell with you forever, whom the world can not receive, because it sees Him not. Why, because the spirit of this world has blinded their eyes, the spirit of antichrist. But greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.

John 14:15-19
If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

John 14:25-26
These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
(Eph 4:29)

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
(Eph 4:30-32)

ezrider, you go to a lot of trouble explaining to put down the doctrines of men. The issue though is that there has to be something in place of the doctrines of man. Most believers don't value the anointing on their lives, or even know it's there. No clue to the power they carry inside them. If they did, they would be laying hands on the sick.

Anti Christos means over against, opposite of the Anointing. The spirit does it's best to remove that anointing on our own life, and God for the Anointing sake, forgave us, so we can be anointed.

That is one thing the devils are having issues coming to terms with, we being born of flesh, have the power of God over them on earth.

It's why the devil rebuked Jesus in God's name, because the devil did not see how it was possible for Jesus to be a man, and still be legal to command them to go. The devil did not get it.

Good post, blessings.

We live, today, in a strange world where men preach the open mind but the scriptures warn of just the opposite in Proverbs 4:23 and about 18 other verses. Paul set for us an example to be like the Bereans and to test the Words we hear against the recorded Word of God. And yet today we find many, some in the pulpit, that receive messages from a spirit being, that when checked against the Word, though it sounds both good and right, it is not.

All of this and as Mike has said, millions deny the power the scriptures proclaim we hold if the Holy Spirit is present in us. We have not because we ask not causing so many disbelieve before they have the chance to believe. To often we forget that God left us with a ruler to measure all things against and to often we do not present to the world, God, in our lives. The Christian Life is the life of submission.

I'm not at all sure you will ever sell the tunnel idea though, that exudes an image of descending into some abyss in the bowels of the earth. I see the Narrow Way more as if it is a single person passage way through a brightly, sun, lit path of beauty.

Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
(Joh 14:11-14)

Good points Bill, many don't even think about the Holy Spirit being in them, or the fact there is power in us (The Lord) to confirm the Word as being true............... But the catch Jesus said here was "He the believeth on me"

We believe Jesus is Savior, but do we believe Jesus is also Helper? Asking in His name would be using his name to do the Work that He did, and confirm His Work through use that the Father be glorified in the Son.

If I am reading this right, stepping out in faith in the Holy Spirit in us, helping us, and fully expecting to do what Jesus did, Gives the Father Glory in the Son. There would be no question about God's will to heal, or use His power with the Word preached to set people free here.

I am just thinking here Bill. God has used me to lay hands on the sick, I have been blessed to be used in some awesome things, but I also confess the Holy Spirit is in me, with me, and the Lord is always with me and will perform his Word, no questions asked. That takes time in prayer, meditating on scripture a lot and most important walking in Love, and being obedient in all things.

Still, God used a Donkey to save Balaam, so I am not sure where that puts me anyway.

Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.
(Mat 15:31)

You know Bill, if you google "God does not restore limbs" you get a lot of post on that subject. Mostly people mocking God, and I wonder if it's our fault?

We are only responsible to walk in the Light God gave us, and not everyone is called to run around getting folks healed. The power is still there in us though, and Jesus said the Works I do, Ye shall do.

Cancer, sickness, burns, Not a issue, but I don't think I have the faith to believe a limb will be restored. I know God can, but knowing God can is not enough.

Are we witnessing effective enough with the thought of Who God put in us, and the name he gave us? It's been weighing on me lately, and I think we need to press into this area more and get Help from God on it.

I can see why Paul said He counted all things as dung compared to the Knowledge of Christ Or His anointing on us (Christos)

Just thinking.

Blessings to you. Mike.

So by definition of the scripture, any one that denies Jesus has come into their flesh is the spirit of antichrist.
1Jn 4:1 Beloved, every spirit believe not, but prove the spirits, if of God they are, because many false prophets have gone forth to the world;
1Jn 4:2 in this know ye the Spirit of God; every spirit that doth confess Jesus Christ in the flesh having come, of God it is,
1Jn 4:3 and every spirit that doth not confess Jesus Christ in the flesh having come, of God it is not; and this is that of the antichrist, which ye heard that it doth come, and now in the world it is already.

1Jn 4:4 Ye--of God ye are, little children, and ye have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world.

Those who do not confess that Jesus Christ, was/is, the promised Anointed One, the Messiah, are not of God. Those who say that He did not come as the Son of Man, are not of God. If either of these things are not true, He could not/cannot be the Redeemer of man. His death and resurrection would not be of any benefit to mankind.
The reason believers can and do believe these things, and other things He taught and the apostles taught about Him, is because God's Spirit dwells in us.

Where does it say if I do not believe Jesus is the messiah that I am not of God? I along with John believe Jesus was of flesh, came in the flesh, is of the flesh, however you want to word it. But all those other things you stated John did not say. Therefore I too am of God.

What does Christ mean? Anointed. What does Messiah mean? Anointed.
We could use Redeemer in place of the Christ and the Messiah, if that would suit you better.
Jesus the Redeemer. If one does not believe that Jesus the Redeemer has come they are not of God.
Only those of God can believe that Jesus is their Redeemer. Those who do not believe that Jesus is their Redeemer are not of God.
And those you do not believe that He the Redeemer of mankind, came in the flesh, died for their sin, and was raised from the dead, and ascended to the Father are not of God.
Rom_5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
2Co_5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
Even Job knew......
Job_19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

While the focus of the OP is more toward the confession of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, there is more to it than that, for just about anyone can claim to have the Holy Spirit. But the difference comes in that which we confess with our mouths. What is it that we really believe? So in this respect to make a point, what do we believe about the flesh of Jesus?

This question is not just directed at you, but is open to all to respond. When you say that you believe that Jesus came in the flesh, what is it you are really saying? After all, there are many atheists who would not deny that there was a man known as Jesus. In fact there are many who see Jesus as a great philosopher, a contemporary of Confucius. They see him as a man of great wisdom, yet they would deny his virgin birth, or they would laugh at the idea of his resurrection. Though they believe that Jesus was a man in the flesh, do you suppose in the spirit of the scripture being discussed in the OP, would you suppose these men to be "of God"?

If you deny the virgin birth of Jesus? What does that confession say about the knowledge of Christ in you?

If you deny the resurrection of Jesus? What does that confession say about the knowledge of Christ in you?

What is it that you are saying when you confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh?

.

It says Jesus Christ, from the Hebrew Messiah. You don't agree with John. Not believing that is the spirit of the Antichrist. You say you are of God.

The devils are also of God, and also believe with fear and trembling.
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
(Jas 2:19)

Ive read the portion where Jesus was annoited. Even king David was annoited and was flesh and on top of that called a righteous man. King Saul was annoited and was flesh. King Cyrus was annoited and was flesh. If you walked into Jerusalem in the days of Jesus and ask to see the annoited one they would ask you which one do you want to see? Do you want to see a king, a judge a priest which annointed person do you want to see?

What is your point quoting James 2:19 to me? Were you trying to imply I am a devil because I dont believe Jesus was annointed? Because if you keep the verse in context. James is speaking of those who just talk and do nothing. Those whose faith is dead because they do not couple it with works. It is my understanding those works are Gods commandments something which many have forsaken, they just talk. Therefore they, not me, must be the devils James was speaking of.

John also taught:
John 1:1 (AV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 (AV)
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
