is there such a thing?

Can a Christian be plagued one?

I know of someone who whilst was in counselling said that whilst they were praying the counsellors wanted to pray about rejection. Whilst they started to pray this person became very hot and started sweating. They then started to move the chair they were sitting in backwards away from the counsellors.

They then swore a couple of times and said out loud something along the lines of "I have been here since conception, from when they were in the mothers womb, their mum never wanted them and you can't touch me" as the counsellors started to rebuke this person then said "no chance"

Then the talking stopped, this person returned to normal temperature and as they say normal reasoning.

They still struggle deeply with rejection and Gods rejection of them no matter how many times they claim scriptures that says otherwise. They have slept around a bit and shrink back from friendships and try to avoid social occasions.

Any thoughts?

I dunno. This "spirit of (XYZ)" and "spirit of (ABC)" business confuses me. I don't doubt that there are bad spirits that can cause confusion+oppression, but...wow. Sometimes, I think well-meaning people go too far. Of course, what's a better explanation? Psychology's got nothin'...dozens upon dozens of different theories and concepts about human life, meaning, suffering, etc. Fairly useless.

My cousin does a spiritual warfare ministry...he's been at it for a while now, him and his colleagues...helping Christians overcome their problems through intense prayer, reflection, counseling, etc. I find it interesting. I think his/their focus is on strengthening believers in The Faith and removing any "foot holds" the enemy may have in a person's life...or that's my (very basic) understanding. Probably fairly standard stuff for "spiritual warfare"-type believers.

Sorry I'm rambling. I just...don't know what to make of it, that's all. This person sounds troubled, deeply troubled, and I don't know that its a "spirit of rejection" so much as a hard life that contributed to mistakes and serious sins. Those sorts of sins, according to the spiritual warfare people, do give the enemy a place in one's life. Seems like something of a vicious cycle to me, but...I've never even met this person, lol.

I know, it's a difficult one.

I think what I find sad is that this person genuinely wants a relationship with God but there are so many barriers that have been put up. I can't figure if it's rejection oppression or not.

I do have to say that I'm not a fan of "Bible says now go do and beleive"

Just to clarify that statement what I'm saying is that if someone says "I don't/can't beleive God loves me" and we say "the bible tells you that God loves you and now go and beleive it" then maybe we haven't understood exactly what is going on. This could apply to lots of things in a believers life.

I myself suffer from severe anxiety and fear. Some days I struggle to drag my sorry ass out of bed. I do so because I have a purpose, working to provide for my wife me 4 children and 2 dogs and to seek God more and to become more like Jesus. To be honest I am fed up and sick of people in the church quoting bible verses that they tell me to walk in and beleive in" don't get me wrong those bible verses are true and from God.

However if the truth of God is not sinking in and releasing people then there must be a reason, there must be a root of the cause that causes the effect.

Jesus always went to root of the problem and dealt with it.
In fact Jesus identified in Peter that Satan influenced Peter. He said "Get behind me Satan, he didn't say get behind me Peter" he indentified that Satan had an influence that was blocking the truth.

It's demonic oppression, undoubtedly. And not all that unusual. Every unbeliever has the spirit of disobedience in control, as did we prior to belief. Eph. 2:2, Acts 26:18, 2 Cor. 4:4 speak to very "real" but unseen adverse agencies that are NOT the person.

When witnessing it is very common to see the resistance of the other parties. I've even seen it in pastors.

The reality of the credible witness of Jesus is that they love the one, the person and resist the other(s) the spiritual adversaries.

Bad doctrines can get in people's heads and demonic influences play a real role in that.

I had a long term friend, 20+ years. He was never a believer, largely because he hated the hypocrisy he saw in churchy people. He also suffered from severe depression, bi polar. Lithium, lock up, the whole nine yards.

Eventually Jesus got to him, and one day we prayed a simple sinners prayer in my office. He lived as a believer for years after that. But, one sad day, his demonic intercourses returned to plague him, and he drove his car head on into a semi truck at 65 miles per hour. They call it vicarious suicide. He left a note in his pocket that read "I've had enough pain and I've had enough pleasure." There is no doubt in my mind that he was saved, and I'll see him again. Some people really struggle with these things, undoubtedly. Life is not always easy.

I have liked your post, not because of how your friend took his life. I have liked your post because the truth is that one day you will see your friend again and so will I, and I'll see you as well. I look forward to it. Us praising God with no more pain and troubles of life.

This is called demonic oppression that can even plague a Christian if they do not guard themselves as Satan wants nothing more then to separate us from God.

Question: "What does the Bible say about demonic oppression?"

Answer:
There is strong biblical evidence that a Christian cannot be demon possessed. The question then arises regarding what influence/power a demon can have over a Christian. Many Bible teachers describe demonic influence on a Christian as “demonic oppression” to distinguish it from possession.

The Bible says that the devil seeks to devour believers (1 Peter 5:8), and Satan and his demons “scheme” against Christians (Ephesians 6:11). As Satan attempted with Jesus (Luke 4:2), demonic forces tempt us to sin and oppose our efforts to obey God. Should a Christian allow the demons to succeed in these attacks, oppression results. Demonic oppression is when a demon is temporarily victorious over a Christian, successfully tempting a Christian to sin and hindering his ability to serve God with a strong testimony. If a Christian continues to allow demonic oppression in his/her life, the oppression can increase to the point that the demon has a very strong influence over the Christian’s thoughts, behavior, and spirituality. Christians who allow continuing sin open themselves up for greater and greater oppression. Confession and repentance of sin are necessary to restore fellowship with God, who can then break the power of demonic influence. The apostle John gives us great encouragement in this area: “We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him” (1 John 5:18).

For the Christian, the power for victory over and freedom from demonic oppression is always available. John declares, “The One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). The power of the indwelling Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9) is always available to overcome demonic oppression. No demon, not even Satan himself, can prevent a Christian from surrendering to the Holy Spirit and thereby overcoming any and all demonic oppression. Peter encourages believers to resist the devil, “standing firm in your faith” (1 Peter 5:9). Being firm or steadfast in the faith means relying on the power of the Holy Spirit to successfully resist demonic influence. Faith is built up through the spiritual disciplines of feeding on the Word of God, persistent prayer, and godly fellowship. Strengthening our faith by these means enables us to put up the shield of faith with which we can “extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:16).
