Spiritual Warfare and Praying...

Interesting I know some people who also believe this.
Does this mean you think all the gifts were only for those in the Bible and can you show me the scripture that says the must be ab interpreter every time it's done ?
1 Corinthians 12:30
1 Corinthians 14:6
1 Corinthians 14:13
1 Corinthians 14:19

Ok Ed you're gonna have to explain this to me. Are you saying we shouldn't pray in tongues because it's neglecting the gift of tongues ?

:lol No brother, remember I was saying that I'm hesitant to pray in tongues on my own? But if tongues is a gift, and this scripture is saying do not neglect the gifts, then perhaps I should be focusing on tongues more. See what i mean?

I wouldn't have to begin speaking tongues on my own, but maybe just focus my heart on it in expectation of the HS to begin speaking? I don't know...:confused

Oh, and the 'someone to interpret the tongues should be present' that was mentioned...I've read this too, in scripture, but can't recall the reference off the top of my head. This is in church and not in private though.

Ah ok :D sorry about that. Do you have the gift of tongues I think you said you did ?

What is the gift of tongues and what do you do?

Well there's different types of tongues I can see in the Bible. 1. Languages of men like the disciples spoke ( or were heard in ) at Pentecost 2. Another language that men don't understand.

When I pray in tongues I think what I want to pray about ( pray with my mind/understanding ) but speak with the tongue which I don't understand. I've never done this in Church because I've never been compelled that an interpreter is present.

If you don't understand it then why do you speak it?

Ah ok :biggrin sorry about that. Do you have the gift of tongues I think you said you did ?

Yes. Well, I spoke in tongues once while praying for about 5 minutes or so. i had been praying for it but not at that particular time. I of course could not understand it but didn't interrupt..

So do you believe that you will only pray in tongues when The Holy Spirit decides you should ? I think the gifts are under control of the Saints ( instigated ) but it's the Holy Spirit doing the miraculous. This doesn't mean the Saints know what the tongues or prophecies mean but that they can use them at will imo.

1Co 14:32 KJV And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

It sorta seems that the Saints are able to use the gifts, which the Holy Spirit gives, as they choose and this is why it's important for them to be used orderly in Church services. What do you think ?

the ecclesia look intently at ABBA, seeking Him Fully all the time, every day. ABBA does as He Pleases, and wherever someone is trusting and relying on HIM in Christ Jesus, the 'gifts' are there. If the 'gifts' are not there, neither is ABBA. the ecclesia don't see the 'gifts' as separate individual items as if ABBA is compartmentalized into little boxes. rather, where ABBA is sought for by the obedient faithful trusting relying on Him, there He is too, abiding with His children. (in 'church building' I never saw this; where I was they deny Him because they didn't want to submit to Him their selfish lives; outside the gate, where Jesus is, ABBA is welcome by His ecclesia with great rejoicing and totally and truly honored)

Interesting video Edward. I can see how the enemy and his angels work through the spiritual realm to affect the physical. Like the part where it talked about knowing our weaknesses and being able to use them to distract us. So if our weakness is lust and we are out walking around in public, can the demons cause a tempting looking woman to walk by at just the right time?

You ask good questions, and this is very interesting to me, I just want to be sure to do it right and not overstep my bounds, if any. I may just be being overly cautious. It does sort of makes sense that the gifts are under control of the saints, for faith requires action, that's true. Instigated by the saint, but the Holy Spirit effects the miraculous...yes, that does make sense, and would agree with the 1 Corinthians scripture you posted.

What is given in grace, must be received in faith...faith without (action) is dead...do not neglect the gifts...faith activates miracles (God)...tongues in church are supposed to have an interpreter there (to bring order, but nothing about that would negate anything else about what we have established)...so, you may just be right brother. I should initiate tongues, at least in private prayer. This makes sense, and would be engaging (action) the Spirit, and not neglecting the gift.

The gift is there. God proved that to me. God does not revoke gifts, that would be a can of worms. Yes, I think you're right.
By being overly cautious and not engaging with tongues, I have been neglecting this gift. Ohh, the enemy is smart. he got me on that. he got me to neglect it and to think that I was doing the right thing at the same time.

Thanks brother! You asked the right questions and made me think about this. Praise God for His wisdom about fellowship! :)

You bet he can! Most walk in darkness anyway, and the drives that women have...I would think that it would be a small thing for him to get one to detour if needed to be there to tempt one and distract him. She wouldn't even have to say anything for the temptation to take place.

........So if our weakness is lust and we are out walking around in public, can the demons cause a tempting looking woman to walk by at just the right time?

have you been out in public(or in church)(or watched tv or a movie) lately ? ! the temptresses are very prevalent(and approved of) in society in the untied states.
in hosea it is written that "even in the house of Yhwh, the righteous man has traps laid before him frequently(through the day/daily)"

The spiritual war never stops and when you get more involved you need every gift to help. Many of us don't get deeply into the spiritual battle though it gets a bit hairy. :D

Hosea 9:8 (AMP) | In Context | Whole Chapter
8 Ephraim was [intended to be] a watchman with my God [and a prophet to the surrounding nations]; but he, that prophet, has become a fowler’s snare in all his ways. There is enmity, hostility, and persecution in the house of his God.

Hosea 9:8 (ERV) | In Context | Whole Chapter
8 God and the prophet are like guards watching over Ephraim, but there are many traps along his way. And people hate the prophet, even in the house of his God.

Hosea 9:8 (CJB) | In Context | Whole Chapter
8 The watchman of Efrayim is with my God,
but a prophet has a fowler’s snare set on all his paths
and hostility even in the house of his God.

When spiritual warfare hits me I have on my armor from Ephesians 6.You are giving Satan way too much power. That is what gift God has given me.I don't need tongues.

reminder: besetting sin that's not forsaken lets the enemy have a foothold that cannot be broken even with prayer and fasting. this happens again and again and again in the midst of Yhwh's congregation or people who are calling on His Name.
all of the prophets and apostles and men sent by Yhwh were sent proclaiming with the command : repent!
and the sins were openly revealed to them where they went - publicly and openly disclosed, and either repented of OR the men of Yhwh were attacked and dismissed (ignored and run out of the area)......

No you don't need tongues but it's a good idea to covet them imo. I didn't give satan power Eve did :D
