Steps towards becoming a better Christian

For my new years resolution, I am taking steps starting as of 1st January towards becoming a better Christian. This means talking to Christians, practising the faith, reading the bible, worshipping God the correct way, without whom I would not be alive and praying.

My journey has been difficult, life takes you on some unexpected journeys sometimes. Things can get quite rocky but since becoming a Christian my life has become better, I felt Gods love and a cloud of uncertainty has lifted from my life. There is still much room for improvement, but through Gods love and mercy and judgement I will take measured steps to improving myself as a Christian. I also have to thank the community here for being kind and understanding. I am ready to do good here on this earth. I will now leave a prayer from Psalm 77:

In Distress, I Sought the Lord
1{To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of Asaph.} I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me.
2In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.
3I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.
4Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
5I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.
6I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.
7Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more?
8Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore?
9Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.
10And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.
11I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.
12I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.
13Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?
14Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.
15Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.
16The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled.
17The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows also went abroad.
18The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook.
19Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known.
20Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Amen

becoming a better Christian.

A great intention, one fraught with difficulties.

Humility is one of the key characteristics.

We are not saved by our efforts, nor are we kept as a Christian because we are particularly holy or rightous.

I keep coming back to Roman 12:1+2. Eph 2:8+9 and 2 Tim 3:16+17.

That we are to be changed, in how we think and that we are to receive the grace that we might be ready to do the good God wants us to do.

We are called to be faithful, not to be successful, but faithful.

Warrior8080 thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your journey with us.

It is a journey everyday when obstacles are placed in our path as the deceiver only wants to destroy our faith in Christ. I'm always reminded of Colossians 3:1-4 as our help in times of need sits at the right hand of God and is very approachable to those who humble themselves before Him. We might trip and fall at times, but God will always pick us up, dust us off and make our feet straight again. Just keep drawing closer to Him as you develop that personal relationship with Christ. We are always here for you brother. God bless :)

Hi Warrior,,,,

I'd like to say that sometimes a person could become a "good Christian" immediately,
and sometimes it takes years before one realizes that he is a disciple of Jesus.

I do believe, however, that it does take effort on our part. The effort is in choosing correctly
when moral issues come up so as to minimize sin as much as possible. The Holy Spirit helps us
in t his way - maybe in different ways for different persons.

Also, we ARE called to be holy and righteous.
Holy means that we are set apart to do God's work here in this world, to those we with whom we come into contact.
Righteous means to be right with God...

So, yes, we are called to be holy in the way described above and also righteous.

Welcome to the forum....
