Stoned to death

"Make a tree good and its fruit will be good". There is no reason for violence against children.

I totally agree, but I'm not talking about violence within being disciplined even though the discipline can be violent which should never be so.

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Children will imitate the behavior of their parents from an early age whether it is good or bad behavior and they will grow up by that of their environment.

:confused .. are you trying to say that spanking is not violence?

If you were part of the baby boomers like I was growing up in the 50' - 60's then no it wasn't violent as it was a a form of discipline in a normal home for misconduct. It was a part of teaching the child right from wrong.

On the other hand it does become violent when the one doing the disciplining does it out of anger and frustration with the child as they take it to far and becomes abusive causing them to beat the child causing physical harm.

I was paddled many times by my parents and it taught me not to repeat the bad things I did. You need to explain to the child what they did wrong and when you do wrong you will be punished.

That is not love. (1 John 4:18).

1 John 4:18 fits in with disciplining a child as there is no fear when the child is being told why they are being disciplined as they will learn to respect the love the parents have for them. If parents did not love their child then they would care less if they disciplined them.

Proverbs 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

"Love is patient, love is kind".

Love does no harm to a neighbour.

Love does not dishonour others.

.. honestly, now how can you even think I would accept that idea?

That's the thing though. Spanking is not discipline, it is wrath. It is only punishment and punishment only serves to pay a debt to the one who feels aggrieved. It is particularly wicked, because the debt doesn't actually achieve anything good for the aggrieved (as perhaps a sentence of an afternoon's labour would), and it only does harm to the one who is indebted. It's like the ultimate of all evils, in fact: "I will not forgive you unless you cry in pain". You can't slice it any other way, because that's what it is.

Proverbs 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

If that is how you use your rod against someone who is one tenth your size and who is also a child, boy...

Discipline: to punish or penalize for the sake of enforcing obedience and perfecting moral character

Chasten: to correct by punishment or suffering, 2 Samuel 7:14

Rebuke: repimanded, scolded

There are three types of discipline: preventive, supportive and corrective

Discipline should not be confused with cold hearted punishment. The Lord's discipline is a response of His love for us and His desire for each of us to be holy, Proverbs 3:11, 12; Hebrews 12:5-11. The result of God's discipline is a stronger faith and a renewed relationship with Him not to mention destroying the hold that particular sin had over us.

Children need to know there are consequences/punishment for bad behavior and there is nothing wrong with a swat on the butt for a child to know you mean business, but also love them enough to correct them. We no longer stone at risk children anymore, but there are residential detention facilities they can be sent to for behavior problems that will teach them discipline and give them structure to grow up with that will eradicate their behavior.

There is, actually.

That isn't what love would do. Love is kind.

If love is kind (which it is) and God is love (which He is) then why did He have His enemies destroyed? Even children can be enemies of God.

1 Samuel 15:2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt. 3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

This was God's love for His people as He had the enemy destroyed. It was the same as we read in the account of stoning the disobedient children.

Iv been watching u 2 discuss this. It's a very interesting topic so i opened a thread on it. Bring the conversation over to it. We'll see what other people think about it...
My opinion is out there for all to see as well

Why is it that you are asking me this question? All I am interested in, is that children are protected from the wretched hands of those who harm them when they are are meant to be protecting them.

When I get a chance will check it out.

Why can't you just answer the question?

I already addressed how some go overboard and the discipline becomes abuse so yes, we should all be concerned about child abuse and also report it when we know the child is being abused.

It really does not have any relevance to the topics. You also are not asking me to assist you to gain insight (eg: James 4:3).

It is abusive whenever a grownup makes a child cry.

My post # 129 has everything to do with the topic of children being stoned to death as even God had children killed along with their parents like the example I gave in 1 Samuel 15:2, 3. I do not need your assistance in what I ask you as I already know the answer and even gave it to you.

If you can not answer the question I ask there is no shame in not knowing, but a chance to gain some knowledge why God had these children stoned to death as God has always had His enemies destroyed. Read Hosea 4:6.

This topic is not about child abuse, but what was written in the laws of God as far as why children were stoned to death before the better covenant of grace.

There it is: the reason I did not answer your question (and I said that already too, which you might see if you read what I said with that context). I know exactly what you are up to, and I will not be a partner with it.

It was a straight forward question as I only asked you why God instructed that even children should be killed along with their parents as the example given in 1 Samuel 15:2, 3. Why would that make you think I am up to anything, which I am not. Answer, don't answer as it makes no difference to me.

The law requiring rebellious children to be stoned to death was meant for extreme cases to protect God's people. This was a command of God, but now under the dispensation of a better covenant of grace through Christ Jesus we no longer stone anyone.

Leviticus 20:7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. 8 And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you. 9 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

"If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.” Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid."
I think God purposely did things in the old testament so they could hold symbolic value nowadays.
