I got a computer software package for my birthday last year that I am still trying to get used to. I was just wondering if anybody else uses QuickVerse? ...and what other computer software packages are available for studying, research, etc. ??

I'm gonna move this to the General section so more people can see it :-)

If your looking for some excellent, and free Bibles for your computer, check out a few of these.

My favorite downloadable Bible is probably the Net Bible. It's a modern translation that has excellent foot notes on why they translated a particular word the way they did.

The NET Bible

The NET Bible is a completely new translation of the Bible with 60,932 translators’ notes! It was completed by more than 25 scholars – experts in the original biblical languages – who worked directly from the best currently available Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. Turn the pages and see the breadth of the translators’ notes, documenting their decisions and choices as they worked. The translators’ notes make the original languages far more accessible, allowing you to look over the translator’s shoulder at the very process of translation. This level of documentation is a first for a Bible translation, making transparent the textual basis and the rationale for key renderings (including major interpretive options and alternative translations). This unparalleled level of detail helps connect people to the Bible in the original languages in a way never before possible without years of study of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. It unlocks the riches of the Bible’s truth from entirely new perspectives.

If you want to view how it reads before you download it, a full online version (NeXt version with enhanced features) is located at http://net.bible.org/bible.php

E-Sword

Another good free Bible that has many robust features is E-Sword which offers many featuresincluding a variety of translations, commentaries, strongs, maps and key word search functionality just to name a few.

You can download E-Sword here. {Click here and follow instructions}

NIV Audio version (mp3)

If your like me and spend a lot of time driving, here's the whole New Testament (dramatized) on MP3. I also have Zondervan's NIV which I paid for, and all in all this is a pretty good version considering it's free. The only thing I really didn't care for is when they switch off readers between chapters. They don't do it on every book, but the ones they do is kinda annoying. Hey, it's free, and over all, it's well done. ;)

I also purchased Sword Searcher years ago and really enjoy it!

If you have any other favorites, please share! :P

Don't take up memory with a program when you have free online Bibles with excellent features!

This one has both audio and text (audio is GREAT for multitasking):
http://www.biblegateway.com/

These two I haven't explored yet but my intro religion studies prof suggests:
http://unbound.biola.edu/
and
http://bibleontheweb.com/Bible.asp

And StoveBolts: booya! I just bought that same study Bible. I needed a Bible for intro religion studies. I like book form (ahem, that's my excuse, it's mainly for my Bible nerdiness and n00bness and the fact that I like book-form because she said we could just use the online form...).

I feel like *such* a nerd. *adjusts glasses on her nose*

+1 for e-sword. Most of it is free and some of the more popular Bible translations you have to pay for, but it is worth it.

I don't have e-sword on my laptop, which I am currently using, so I use http://bible.crosswalk.com/.
