Sunday Trades

Mate,

I lived in the USA for 5 years. I know all about blue laws.

However, the issue in this thread is 'Sunday Trades'. I understand the question being asked: Is it biblically legitimate to work or do business on Sunday, the Lord's Day?

My understanding is that there is no NT mandate: Thou shalt not work for money or trade for money on the Lord's Day or First Day of the week.

Oz
yes but the need to it is honestly rare for most. would you miss church knowingly if you only had a one day service and could easily choose to not to work on Sunday? like I said its then in that case a sin. I'm not going to judge those that must , I know that they must but many are simply spending to have things when they simply don't need to most churches don't have sunday evening services, they hold then at 9 am to noon. some might have a Saturday service.

if we were to honestly examine the things we think we must have over the things of GOD we would realise that those temporal things are just that.

Can you direct me to any NT verses that have a message that approximates, 'The first day of the week is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord and on that day no Christian may do any work'?

Oz
I can't recall one.

Colossians 2:16-17

So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

There is no evidence in the Bible of anyone keeping the Sabbath before the time of Moses, nor are there any commands in the Bible

The Sabbath was the sign to Israel of the Mosaic Covenant (Exodus 31:16-17; Ezekiel 20:12; Nehemiah 9:14). Since we are now under the New Covenant (Hebrews 8), we are no longer required to observe the sign of the Mosaic Covenant.

Sunday has not replaced Saturday as the Sabbath. Rather the Lord's Day is a time when believers gather to commemorate His resurrection, which occurred on the first day of the week. Every day to the believer is one of Sabbath rest, since we have ceased from our spiritual labor and are resting in the salvation of the Lord (Hebrews 4:9-11).
