Me, yet again. I'm into alternative/complementary health. Mostly massive doses of vitamin and antioxidants (its called Orthomolecular...the idea is reduce the toxicity of psych drugs and improve overall health...). I read about l-theanine. Its an amino acid mostly found in green tea and also in some mushrooms. l-theanine is produced by a number of different companies, but the Suntheanine brand is the one used most often in the (numerous, and growing) studies on everything from improving sleep in kids prescribed stimulants for ADD/ADHD (seems to help) to Schizophrenia (reduces anxiety, insomnia, and agitation, according to a small study).

I think I"m a fan. The online place where I get supplements was having a big sale, so I stocked up. 150mgs/Suntheanine per capsule. Must be taken on an empty stomach. L-theanine seems to have some health benefits, too...it has some antioxidant properties, and it seems to be especially helpful to the liver.

Anyway...my dreams of finding an "alternative" method of dealing with my mental problems haven't panned out (sad times), but I am making strides towards "recovery" with only 2 daily psych drugs at standard doses.

The Suntheanine seems to help. Dosages vary wildly. I went for a high dose, because a) I was curious and b) it seems that higher doses last longer, so I can get er done in 1 dose instead of 2 or 3. No known drug interactions, either, which is -always- a good thing (that's one reason I'm not into herbals...they mess with standard meds more than vitamins and amino acids).

Just thought I'd share my experience, thus so far. I think I may keep it on as a permanent part of my vitamin line up.

:-)

do you opt for Suntheanine? Or do you have a different preferred brand? I"m thankful for this stuff. I don't know why I Have so many bottles here, but...I started popping them, and they work better than my as-needed, "non-addictive" stuff, plus it seems to have some "side benefits," so...always a good thing...

I generally use Organika, 225mg, but only because the place I get it from often has 20% off sales. I would prefer 100mg so I can regulate it better.

Great as part of pre-workout supplement stack with caffeine, or prior to an exam at school. Caffeine to get the energy up and keep the mind alert, and theanine to get relaxed without getting sleepy.

awesome. thanks for the info.

Suntheanine has been good to me. The studies in more severe psych problems used 400+mgs/day, so...yeah. The more, the better, basically.
