Talk About Some Crazy Spooky Stuff.

I actually admire the woman. Not because I'm Muslim myself and am rejoicing in someone joining the dark side (as I'm sure people here would seriously think) but because it feels like a bridge. A person combining the best of two seemingly opposite worlds and being at peace with it.
I wouldn't say I admire her, but I do like the idea of people working to get along, despite some major theological beliefs.

Then again, Lewis W can always gloss over anything I say with a nice pic of Normal Bob Smith at a movie theater watching Passion of the Christ and say it's me.

:-D

But, then again, I guess that's Quath's thing.

:P
Heh, maybe you will get lucky and get a sexy devil. :)

Joudie and Quath seem to have missed the obvious: Christianity and Islam are mutually exclusive beliefs. One cannot in any way worship both the God of Christianity and the God of Islam. These two belief systems are fundamentally different at the core. This goes far beyond "working to get along", you might as well admire her for believing in round squares.

I think there is room to join the two religions. They are both based on the idea of worshiping Yahweh (through different names) and they both believe that the old and new testament have historical merit.

They do have the fundamental problem on how to treat Jesus, but I don't know if that is greatly different than the split Mormons took with Jesus. And there are some Christians that just think that Jesus is the Son of Man, but not the biological offspring of God (not many of this type).

In the end, it appears to be YAD (yet another denomination).

Dang. You are hard to ignore. :sad

"They do have the fundamental problem on how to treat Jesus, but I don't know if that is greatly different than the split Mormons took with Jesus. " - That is a problem, yes. For Mormons and Muslims and a good reason why there is NOT "room to join" them.

"there are some Christians that just think that Jesus is the Son of Man, but not the biological offspring of God" - they would be CINO - God's Word is clear.

In one very small way you are right. You are right to bring Mormonism in since it is a Christian heresy, and it can be argued that Islam is as well.

In addition to the very nature of God there are other fundamental beliefs that are contradictory. This shows that you may not have studied either religion enough.

One thing I have learned is that faith can overcome any contradiction.

Then you have either been taught incorrectly or misunderstood, particularly when it comes to the differences in religions. Christianity and Islam are fundamentally and irreconcilably different; one cannot logically be a both a Christian and a Muslim.

Quath spare me man. I think you have lost your mind too. There is no room to join the 2' at all. The god of the Quran' is not the same God of the Bible. And notice' I used lower case for the Quran's god. Because he is a false god.

Until God reveals Himself to Quath he will never know Him. It will take more than doing what 'man' tells you to do in order to be saved. It is really God alone who saves; not mouthing words, not reciting creeds or going through religious repititions and traditions.
First there is a preperation period where God will bring you to the end of yourself (and He knows how to destroy pride). Fallow ground has to be plowed under.
God knows exactly how to bring a person to total surrender. Some will still resist Him, yet some will come to their senses like the prodigal son. God alone saves.

Do you think the Quran is logically consistent? Or the book of Mormon? Probably not. So maybe we can agree that some people have faiths that defy contradiction. (We probably wont agree on all religions though.)

Hehe, Elizabeth Hurley in Bedazzled would be nice... :-D

Come to think of it, I've been called a demon by my best friend 'cause of my insatiable attraction to red clothing...along with the fact I love to bug her.

Np she is not saved' and that comment about the dark side' Joudie was correct. Because that is where she is from.

Yay! I finally said something that Lewis W finds correct! Happy day!

Yeah, I'm definitely with Quath on this one.

And Free, I know that when it comes to Jesus, Muslims and Christians can't really mix. The very fact that Muslims believe that Jesus never died on the cross to begin with pretty much abolishes the very thing Christianity is founded upon. So don't think I don't understand the contradiction. I'm just saying that although it seems so bizarre and unlikely, this woman has combined the two, and is feeling peaceful with her choice and isn't hurting anyone. Sure it's a little odd, but a nice kind of odd. For now, anyways.

I haven't read the Quran but the BoM is not internally consistent nor consistent with other Mormon beliefs. The point is that Christianity and Islam are mutually exclusive beliefs. There is absolutely no way one can reconcile both.

Although that is one of the differences between the religions, it is only one. There is much more to it than that.

Both Christians and Muslims know that the two cannot be combined and it very much hurts both religions that she thinks she can join the two. It isn't a matter of being "bizzare and unlikely" or "feeling peaceful with her choice". To argue that it is okay since no one is getting hurt and that she is okay with her choice is absurd.

One cannot consistently believe in or live by both religions. Your remarks echo her choice - truth isn't absolute. And this makes both religions utterly meaningless. If truth isn't absolute, which it isn't, then one of them could be true, not both, and she is living a dichotomy.

SEATTLE: An Episcopal priest who announced last month that she is also a practicing Muslim has been suspended from the priesthood for a year, according to a media report.

The Rev. Ann Holmes Redding must take a year from her position at Seattle's St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral and should "reflect on the doctrines of the Christian faith, her vocation as a priest, and what I see as the conflicts inherent in professing both Christianity and Islam," the Rt. Rev. Geralyn Wolf, bishop of the Diocese of Rhode Island, wrote in an e-mail to church leaders.

Redding, a priest for 23 years, was ordained by a former bishop of Rhode Island and remains subject to discipline by that diocese.

"I'm deeply saddened, but I've always said I would abide by the rulings of my bishop," Redding told The Seattle Times.

In a front-page article last month in The Times, she said she had been a practicing Muslim for 15 months after being profoundly moved by an introduction to Islamic prayer.

She has maintained that she did not violate any of her baptismal or ordination vows.

"Since entering Islam," she told the newspaper, "I have been, by my own estimation, a better teacher, a better preacher and a better Christian."

Reaction has been deeply mixed, with some supporting her practice of two faiths and others questioning whether both could be practiced by any individual, much less a Christian church leader.

"I am both Muslim and Christian, just like I'm both an American of African descent and a woman. I'm 100 percent both," she told The Times in June.

Since being suspended from the priesthood, Redding said, she realizes many believe "the last thing the church needs to deal with at this time is this type of doctrinal dispute. I wish it could've been at a more convenient time, but as far as I know I am responding to God's will and God's timing."

This is as deep as her "christianity" goes. She clearly doesn't know Jesus Christ, all she knows are riots, vows, and religious rituals she's learned or memorized having to do with church tradition.
Theres a lot more like her out there.

I was just going to say that, Is Joudie a Christian??If so this is what really URKS me is when a Christian is Ok about another persons beliefs (when it goes against the Bible teaching) and say things like "Well as long as their at peace with it" or "well it's not for me, but it's ok for them" They are being DECEIVED and instead of OKing it you need to be standing up for the truth!

To incorporate another religious practice into your Christian walk is like saying God is not enough to meet your needs. You are not filled in the CHristian faith! THAT is lunacy. I know someone who professes to be a devout Luthern but clings to the sayings of Buddha becaus that is where she finds her peace. :smt073

God is sorely displeased with those who talk behind people's backs.
