Talk: Paradise on Earth

Well it comes the time of year when I head off to Beach Mission to help spread the Word. I help lead the group pf kids that are aged about 11-12 and this year we have a paradise theme. We have talks on the OT paradise, the NT paradise, etc.

The talk I am supposed to give is titled Paradise on Earth - Contrast. It is supposed to contrast the paradise on heaven with the "paradise" that we have on earth now.

Well I've been finding it difficult to find a passage to talk on. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of Bible passages for this kind of talk, or ideas for the talk.

Remember, this is aimed at 11-12 yo kids that rarely hear a gospel message. Some are Muslims, most don't really come accross religion much. One or two may be pretty knowledgeable though. The talk would be a little less than 10 minutes.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. :)

ok. lets see comparing the real paradise as given by god to the earthly and fleshly sinner driven utopia

ok hmm isiah 65:25

25The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD

isiah 2

Isaiah 2

1The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 4And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

theres more on the millenium if you want more i can go into the verses where men live for hundreds of years or the revalation 21 verse 4

4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Remembering back to some things that a prof mentioned, perhaps you could talk about how according to the Bible everything began in a garden with humans in perfect relationship to God, and how they rebelled, breaking that relationship with God, being banished from the garden. The first thing mankind did was to go and build cities where they could be in relationship with other humans. In the end, those who believe in Jesus will be in perfect relationship with God in a garden in the center of a city.

Rev 22:1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb
Rev 22:2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
Rev 22:3 No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. (ESV)

I don't know. That's a little rough. It was several years ago. Maybe there is something there.

Or perhaps something about how God created everything and called it good. He placed man in the Garden of Eden, paradise on Earth. But when Adam and Eve rebelled, they caused all of creation became cursed and fallen. What we see, what we call paradise, is beautiful because it still is God's creation. But it is fallen and broken. Those who enter into, and live in, relationship with God before they die or before Jesus returns, will live forever in a renewed, redeemed Earth, true paradise where everything is once again good.

Much of the last couple of books of Revelation could be used to show that God will bring healing and justice, and restore true beauty to all of creation.

Hopefully that can help give you some ideas.

and? my son is twelve and we are into hosea and revalation and at that age my dad recited then entire first five books of the bible in hebrew.

why do we christians dumb down our faith.

i didnt even go that deep into the the word with nathan. just hit the most important stuff.

like why is god married to isreal, the part where in hosea says ye arent my people and how that the gentiles are that people that he says ye are my people.

the funny thing is nathan asked those questions,i also told him what the valley of jezreal is and why god had to judge isreal for that sin.

Well I'm writing the draft tonight. Thanks Duane, I think the end of Revelation is good. I think I'll outline the fallen world first. Someone would already have covered the OT Promised Land etc, but the point of my talk is more of a contrast between the fallen world and heaven.

There will obviously be overlap between mine and others' talks, especially the person that does the "New Covenant Heaven" talk, but that's ok. We want the talks to be self-sufficiant, so that a perosn that comes once or twice will still get a good clear message, but we also want it so that those that attend most of our two-week program don't have hugely repetitive talks.

Jason, I re-read your posts and thanks. I like the general gist, but I think some of that stuff in Isiah and the millenium is too heavy for 12yo kids that only hear the gospel a few times a year.

isiah and stuff is where john is referring too on that end age.

so if you want to be more accurate then at least say that is in there. otherwise they will be off in what that means.i have learned that with eschatology one must at first have a good grasp of the ot.other wise that tree of life at the end of the revalation has no revalance as you dont understand what that means

isreal being a blessing to the nations.

Oh, no worries. We did Revelation in Bible Study this year. I reckon we spent almost as much time in Isiah, Ezekiel and Daniel as we did in Revelation.

But the point is - this is an 8 minute talk for kids. I have read OT references in Revelation and hopefully I understand it enough to explain to them the contrast between what many people think of paradise here on earth, with the real heavenly paradise.

I understand the importance of the OT in this, that the Revelation is speaking of fulfilled prophecy. The kids need to grasp that.

In 8 minutes.

in parts it is. but i wont get into that debate here.

good luck doing that in eight minutes. i cant do that with one question from nathan simple things.

shoot the definition of amen and what it means in hebrew is a sermon!

Yeah, not the easiest of topics to deal with quickly. Let's just hope that I don't go on a 20 minute red herring on the meaning of amen, like one of our pastors did a few years ago, lol.

man i had to explain to him why god judged isreal and killed their children by the judgment of assyria.

not an easy thing to do.

HI

Its a bit late, but I think children of 12 years or even younger need hope for a better future than drugs and booze and other false gods and that they should be told about what the better future will be and something of how and why they should hold out against the sins of the world in order to be part of the future when it comes and also have a better life until then, though with much resistence by others to it.

Jock.
