Television

Who thinks that television is being used for good?

If anyone does believe that television is being used for good then would you please give examples of the so called good programming?

.
I like to watch educational programmes and documentaries ... that's how I learned something about false preachers in the United States !

:biglol

Yesterday was my hubby's birthday and my in-law's gave him the full boxed set of James Michener's "Centennial". Now that is an example of great TV. The history is accurate, the stories compelling, and there is nothing graphic about it.

TV is a medium, just like paint, stone, or ink and paper. It's not good or bad in of itself. Get a good writer (and Michener is one of the best) and one will have good TV.

The problem today is that crass language, sex, and graphic violence takes the place of good writing. I really cannot think of an example of good programming that is being produced today.

One of the better programs just wrapped up it's final season and that was "Monk". I am going to miss Monk.

Like Dora said. :thumb

TV is a tool, like a computer. It can be used for good or evil and it is entirely up to you to make the decisions. I like the history channel, discovery, the outdoor channel and things of that nature so on and so forth and whatnot. :D

C-Span, The Science channel, Joel Osteen, Lost, PBS. A show that I am embarrassed to love is Celebrity Apprentice. I am really loving this season. I hope the former Illinois Governor wins.

So some good tee-vee and some bad tee-vee exists. But it seems that the whole thing is leaning heavily on the bad stuff and being largely used for evil. IMO we are doing well not try and to mix the bitter with the sweet.

I realize that computers present temptation as well as tee-vee. But at least with my computer I probably won't get assaulted in the same way. If anyone looks for smut on line it's there, but you have to look for it because it usually just does not just appear by itself. But in many cases on the television it's there whether you want it, or not.

Many of these things are what's wrong with television.

Any form of media can be used for good, or it can be used for bad. My sister-in-law called me several years ago to tell me that their preacher (a real extremist) had told the congregation that it was a sin to have TV in their house because of the "bad programming" that is shown. So, they all took their TV sets to the church parking lot and smashed them. It didn't take too long for them to discover that they really missed their TV - they enjoyed some programs and her husband missed being able to see the evening news when he got home from work. So, they went out and bought another TV and then they were afraid that someone from the church would come to their house and see the TV and tell the preacher. So they lived in constant stress about the whole thing. She asked me what they should do. I told them that basically it isn't the preacher's business whether they have a TV or not. And I went on to tell her that if they want to completely eliminate the bad stuff, they would have to smash all the radios - after all, some of the stations play inappropriate music that no one should listen to. And then, we have to burn down all the libraries - after all, they have books in there with sexual situations, bad language, and books about devil worship and many other horrible subjects. And, above all, we shouldn't have computers with the internet - after all, there are porn sites and other material that's not suitable for anyone to view.

I think she got the point. Any media source can be used for good or used for bad. We have complete control as to how we use any media source that we have access to.

It's all about choices - OUR choices.

God Bless

Well first of all Donald Trump isn't a Godly man. I wouldn't like to invite him into my home, and I couldn't care less what he says or does unless it's him baptized and born again.

The show is just mindless fun. It's a game show. It is no less Godly than the Price is Right.

Joel Olsteen? Really?

I suppose it would be for another thread to talk about his theology.

Really God allowed the invention of the TV, to come into mans mind to spread His Word, and for communication with each other. Man can't come up with anything that was not in the mind of God first. Now tho the topic at hand, there are some good TV shows you have children programs and you have some good family programs that are really for the family without the cussing and the sex. 7th Heaven, Star Track, just name a couple and there are still many more around.

God allowed all of this to glorify Himself. All of it. Does that mean it's all good for us? Of course not.

What about all of the hypocrites who are writing the story lies? How about those hypocrites who are acting out the story lies?

How about an agenda? Do you think anyone who produces television has ever stopped to think about the power they have over the public? The advertisers sure have. They must have or they wouldn't shell out so much for the ad time.

Movies, music, television. etc.,,,,it's all a bunch of man made idolatry and there's no breath of life in any of it. Men and women put their beings into creating these idols and when they're through they sell a dead thing. Even a live program is dead by the time it reaches your home because all the breath that goes into it isn't there with you in your living room.

Even The Three Stooges was a sinful mess. A little sin on the tee-vee has led to a lot of sin on the tee-vee.

Over the epitaph of this generation it will say ENTERTAINED TO DEATH.- Paul Washer
