So were we closer to 'the end' while we waited for the all important 10 member Common Market to fulfill prophecy or are we closer now that there are almost 30 member nations?

We really have to understand how Daniel used the word 'melek' to denote either a king or royalty. Taken the parallel vision in Revelation of the ten kings John revealed that they were kings [royalty] not having a kingdom. We also need to understand how Daniel used prince as in case of Daniel 8:25.
I give alittle more detail of my argument to the preisthood at the time of Antiochus IV here on my site. The Strait and Narrow
The Roman government wanted Roman culture to flourish in the farthest reaches of the empire, which at the time included eastern Palestine. So they encouraged the growth of these ten cities, allowing them some political autonomy within the protective sphere of Rome. Each city functioned as a polis or city-state, with jurisdiction over an area of the surrounding countryside. Each city also minted its own coins. Many coins from Decapolis cities identify their city as "autonomous," "free," "sovereign," or "sacred," terms that imply some sort of self-governing status.
The imperial cult, the worship of the Roman emperor, was a very common practice throughout the Decapolis and was one of the features that linked the different cities. A small open-air temple or facade, called a Kalybe, was unique to the region.
The cities may also have enjoyed strong commercial ties, fostered by a network of new Roman roads. This has led to their common identification today as a "federation" or "league." The Decapolis was probably never an official political or economic union; most likely it signified the collection of city-states that enjoyed special autonomy during early Roman rule.
Decapolis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
{12} "The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour. {13} "These have one purpose, and they give their power and authority to the beast. Revelation 17:12-13 (NASB)Yet, whatever their origins, the cities shared an important sentimental tie: they were Greek towns, not Jewish or Nabataean. During the Jewish War, they were loyal supporters of Rome.

Beck...
I didn't realize who these "ten kings" were until I was reading that passage from Revelation one night and then the word "Decapolis" came to mind.
It turns out the region of these "ten cities" each had a modicum of sovereignty under Rome (they were city-states) which lent their support to Rome against Jerusalem during the siege.

By the year 106 AD, the Roman emperor Trajan annexed the cities of the Decapolis to Nabatea, thus ending their autonomy.
They were kings without kingdoms but had authority as kings under Rome for a short time, supporting Rome against Jerusalem during the siege of Jerusalem.
Based on all of this, I have to conclude this prophecy was fulfilled by the city-states of the Decapolis.

Ten is such a common number that it is no wonder so many theories abound as to whom/what a particular biblical 'ten' refers to. My favored interpretation of Revelation 17:12-13 rocks:headphones, but it should as it goes to eleven, and beyond.
No... Literally! The 'ten' here represents a complete set, regardless of the actual historic number.
10 is a complete set only if you are using in base 10 number system.

noble the canuck.
Harold Camping needs you.The world rulers have divided the entire world up into --you guessed it-- 10 divisions.
( It was "first" instigated as economic regions in 1973 I think... but then remember how Canada, USA and Mexico was to begin "being" a region with it's Amerodollar?? Or something to that effect. I suspect much of that has been cleansed from the internet by now.)
I believe this falls under, for me, "knowledge will increase"... and
Hal Lindsey's Late Great Planet Earth is even more relevant and head nodding now, that we have the technology to "fulfill" prophecy. Back when he wrote it we could only accept things by faith, now we can "see" how something could be enacted.
Most all of the prophecy preachers have expanded their views to encompass the hows of modern day, and I think that's fitting. What I find really exciting is that nearly all of them are saying the exact same thing! I mean, from many religious backgrounds, they have begun to come to the same conclusions. I consider that God's magnificence.
