Thirty now, huh? I remember when Hal Lindsey made big bucks in the 70s with his "Late Great Planet Earth" and how the E.U. was the Beast that would give rise to "THE Antichrist!"

Yep. Christ's coming was imminent!

I didn't realize who these "ten kings" were until I was reading that passage from Revelation one night and then the word "Decapolis" came to mind.

It turns out the region of these "ten cities" each had a modicum of sovereignty under Rome (they were city-states) which lent their support to Rome against Jerusalem during the siege.

The Roman government wanted Roman culture to flourish in the farthest reaches of the empire, which at the time included eastern Palestine. So they encouraged the growth of these ten cities, allowing them some political autonomy within the protective sphere of Rome. Each city functioned as a polis or city-state, with jurisdiction over an area of the surrounding countryside. Each city also minted its own coins. Many coins from Decapolis cities identify their city as "autonomous," "free," "sovereign," or "sacred," terms that imply some sort of self-governing status.

The imperial cult, the worship of the Roman emperor, was a very common practice throughout the Decapolis and was one of the features that linked the different cities. A small open-air temple or facade, called a Kalybe, was unique to the region.

The cities may also have enjoyed strong commercial ties, fostered by a network of new Roman roads. This has led to their common identification today as a "federation" or "league." The Decapolis was probably never an official political or economic union; most likely it signified the collection of city-states that enjoyed special autonomy during early Roman rule.

Yet, whatever their origins, the cities shared an important sentimental tie: they were Greek towns, not Jewish or Nabataean. During the Jewish War, they were loyal supporters of Rome.

While I tend to separate Daniel from Revelation as to Daniel revealing the type and Revelation revealing the antitype. So in doing so we see that the fourth kingdom as having ten toes that are mixed iron with clay. To me this parallel's itself with the beast that rises out of the sea and the beast from the earth.

So in viewing the clay of the image we can fine in many instances that clay has been represented as the nation of Israel one case is in Jeremiah 18:6.

Jeremiah 18:6 kjv O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

And as for Daniel these ten melek come up before the little horn. In chapter 8 give great reasons to believe this little horn is Antiochus IV which indeed did take away the daily. It was said of this little horn that he would case down the stars and host of heaven to the ground. Given meaning that the high officers would be killed or simple removed from their office. In this case it refers to the priest and the high priest as being removed from their heavenly places.

Israel is then seen and described as the clay which mingled themselves with the seed of men. Daniel then is given the interpertation of this fourth beast with these ten toes or horns. He is told that they are ten melek to which I believe is refering to the ten clay toes that are mingled with the seed of men.

This again seems to be pointing to the priest and high priest of Israel as the ten of which three don't submit, but is forced or removed 'subdued' by the little horn Anitochus.

I said all that to being the parallel meaning to Revelation as the antitype of this prophecy. As much as Anitochus was given a time, times and half there was in the antitype given 42 months to war against the saints. So we see that there are parallels and given that in Daniel the ten was clay of Israel I tend to believe the same is in Revelation as the ten melek which had no kingdom. Revelation also tells us that they have one mind and shall give their power or authority which was given to them by the beast. So in other word the authority that they was given they used to for the beast.

Since Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas and the elders was told that they would see the coming of the son of man in clouds of judgment that would appear that they where those in high offices that alined themselves to the beast of Rome.

Just going over you comments again and I fine this to be very interesting. Reading more on this I found this site were the subject is the Samaritains. Samaritans

I see where the tension was high among the Jews in Jerusalem and between themselves as Samaritians. I would also notice that Samaria was the captial of the ten nortern tribes of Israel. Would these ten tribes be important in our understanding of the ten kings.

I believe this falls under, for me, "knowledge will increase"... and

Most all of the prophecy preachers have expanded their views to encompass the hows of modern day, and I think that's fitting. What I find really exciting is that nearly all of them are saying the exact same thing! I mean, from many religious backgrounds, they have begun to come to the same conclusions. I consider that God's magnificence.
