I coded an online game once, and I implemented my own swear filter. I got complaints because I had banned the s-x word. I put that in the filter, not because it was a swear word, but because whatever they were saying in that context, was probably inappropriate. I decided to remove it from the filter after I got complaints, because it was coming across as prudish.
So I know what it's like to tune a filter, and it get overactive sometimes. Sad thing is when you have to pore over the code. You get to see every filthy, vile word together in one place. It can get hard to look at.
