"So tell me, can a person believe both in God and evolution?" Again, I gulped hard, did my intellectual duty, and reassured him that evolution was both true and entirely compatible with Christian beliefâ€â€a position I hold sincerely, but still an odd situation for a Jewish agnostic.[/quote]

I don't think evolution is absolutely proven to be true but I do believe that evolution is compatible with Christian belief.

Evolution is completely compatible with Christian belief. God created evolution as a pathway to us and his realm of Glory. The topic is about what is known: this is a deep epistemological question which is within the realm of Philosophy. Evolution is NOT proven but is supported by a huge amount of evidence: creationists have none, except a dogmatic belief in superstition. I do not think being a creationists equates to being a Christian either as you get Hindu creationists and so on. Science is the gift the Lord gave us so his realm could be unfolded to us in all its glory with time.

then in short, the bible should only the books that the scientific mind feels it should be, no genesis or revalation or any prophetic books, shoots that's the whole thing, what book doesnt have some prophecy to it..

To attempt to use the Holy bible as a one book for everything considering the million of volumes of scientific literature out there as well as other forms of learning is perhaps perceiving the Lords work as something not intended. The Holy Book seems to be about a lineage of people from Adam and Eve and the family tree so to speak as well as their trials and tribulations; it seems to follow that any prophecy will be for that lineage of people and perhaps not for the rest of us..
Jesus was himself Jewish of course who did not strictly follow the traditional rules, and as we all know got himself into considerable amount of strife with the powerful Priests and then finally the Romans. Christians are never mentioned in the bible, either in the old nor new testament, yet here we are following the word of our Lord Christ.
Yet we are not of his lineage except in our hearts. I am not sure if the concept of extended family was prevalent back then to include us. While we follow our Lord, it is perhaps not intended that the prophecies of the bible extend to those beyond the lineage depicted from the start until the crucifixion of Jesus. We are the gentiles, only later did it come to mean non Roman.

uhmm i'm not gentile, believe what you wish i never said the bible was a science manual, but logic and reason cannot nor ever will explain god, if they could would he be god. recall my reference to alterians and ancients, we could ascend to his level, he would merely be a higher level being that evolved before we did.

and there were called christains first in antioch, see the book of acts for the quote.

we never would be like him in power in might, read and research, and you will see that the bible says that man will be recieving new body and live on earth after the millenial as the new jerusalem will descend from heaven.

but that is another topic

Who intended that we should be exactly like he, we are human and can only emulate his greatness.
I think we should learn to live as a human and let God and Christ accept us as we are, not try an flagellate our selves for sins we have not committed to impress him, He gave us our life so do not act like a kid trying to impress someone, be yourself and let him judge. He is going to do that anyway.
