Bible Study The Adam’s Scratch

I believe one of the most helpful concepts about God is that of His "omniscience." Understanding that He has always had knowledge of all things reveals much of His will and desires in the Scriptures. For example, when He commanded Adam not to partake of the "Tree of knowledge of good and evil" (Gen 2:17) He already knew Adam would disobey and since He allowed this act, I perceive negligible conflict with the concept that God used this occurrence to further reflect on His "image and "likeness" (Gen 1:26) in knowing that man would more so "become like one of Us, to know good and evil" (Gen 3:22).

One can know something and not understand it, but receive its understanding through experience, which in my comprehension was likely God's plan. The word "know" in Hebrew is yada' (https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/Lexicon/Lexicon.cfm?strongs=H3045&t=KJV), and in the context of the above passage it is most sensibly applied with the definition "to understand, perceive, or discern." Since man already knew (knowledge but no understanding) what was good by what God "commanded," and "evil" by what He forbid (Gen 2:16, 17), the design of the word "know" here can be reasonably intended in sense to understand or comprehend.

I enjoy sharing a humorous thought that God could have said, "I already know you're going to disobey Me, but don't." This could have confused Adam, causing him to begin scratching his head in perpetual contemplation, and today instead of the "Adam's Apple" (which I believe can be analogous to the first bight lodged in the throat to hinder swallowing it) it could be the "Adam's Scratch"!

Ha Ha, Red Fox. I think you're the first to think my avatar looks like him. Now that you mention it, yes, I can see some resemblance....Your OP got my mind back to a great wonder and awe of our Mighty God. It causes a great wonder in my mind of how our God orchestrated everything from Genesis 1, to Revelation 22. God's foreknowledge of the fall of Adam and Eve is difficult for me to comprehend. I would have wiped them out and started all over with more of a garentee that man would have been much more faithful.

I've been a student of the Old Testament for years. I see an unbelievable love that God has for people to return His great love thru obedience to His Commands, statues, and rules. As I view the results of Adam's disobedience which led to Israel's wandering in the wilderness headed for the promised land, it didn't take much for the people to please their Jehovah.

I could be wrong but compared to modern times, Israel didn't have the everyday burden that we have today. Their food was supplied supernaturally, their clothes and sandals didn't wear out, their everyday functioning seems to me to be very simple except for the sacrifices. As I study their complaints against Moses, their desire to return to Egypt's bondage, just blows my mind.

Sometimes I just sit back and verbally say "what's wrong with you people" you've got it made!! I've often wondered what exactly caused such rebellion and "stiff-necked" decisions in the Jewish Nation. Was it demonic? I've said, under my breath, "are you people stupid?" I know that I'm not supposed to call someone a fool, but Israel's desires and wants were downright foolish.

About a week ago, I started Genesis 1. I can't tell you how many times I return to Genesis and study thru, to and including Jeremiah. Beyond that, I study what the Holy Spirit suggests to ny mind. Around every corner it seems God is grieved at either Israel or Judah. Again, what's wrong with these people? They're never faithful to their amazing, loving God for very long. In my mind there is a huge question mark(??????????????????).

What in the world caused these people of the Old Covenant to go after little god's that could never benefit them?....My thoughts. :screwloose

:confused:rolleyes

Hey Chopper (what does "Chopper" represent?) - All nationalities are the same within the same era, e.g. any nation would have done the same thing the Hebrews and Jews did. We cannot compare actions between that era and now as concerning actions, because the knowledge is different, i.e. the more revelation you have of God the more intelligent and moving you will be towards perceiving and following truth. If they knew what we know now they would have not acted the way they did; similarly we would act the same as they did then if we only knew what they knew then!

Having the Spirit of God to direct you in the new nature from Christ is the primary advantage--they could not be reborn then.

seems we are all self centered some just more then others
True Sis - I've learned to remember that whatever we do is going to be at least a little sin-tainted, being imperfect, but God knows that our intentions are always for His pleasure, because He works them in us (Phil 2:13).

Forty years in the desert could have only been forty days if they just listened to God. Kinda sounds like us at times when we have no understanding.
